I joined the Facebook group after the big blackout of HTLAL which led to the creation of this forum, and thanks to that group I've been able to get updates on the two occasions that LLORG had problems. However, my preferred option would be e-mail. I've never got around to being comfortable with Twitter, so I've stopped using it, and I am not very often on Facebook, but I do check my e-mails 10 or 20 times a day. I hardly ever think of the wikia as a place to go for information.
To the extent possible though, I think all channels of communication should be used, as obviously people have different preferences and some of you are clearly very active on Twitter.

Re: Contact methods
Why not put the status on page at https://www.language-learners.org/status and link to that in the footer and on www? It's hosted on GitHub, so completely separate from the forum. And someone would have to work hard to break both the www and forum DNS entries.

Re: Contact methods
There are many who choose not to join Twitter or Facebook for very specific reasons.
Could someone tell me where the Wiki page is for this Forum? Is this it?...

Thanks.

That's the wiki that people are talking about. The point about Twitter being a good option is that you don't need to join it in order to read tweets (unless the account is private which is not the default). As someone who is not on Facebook for a number of reasons and does have a Twitter account (which I rarely actually use) I do understand that not everyone has accounts on Twitter or Facebook. Here is an example of a Twitter account that is used for website status updates. Note your ability to read all of the posts easily without being logged into an account as compared to Facebook.
Honestly I think having updates appear in two places would make sense but I'm ultimately not the one making the decisions nor am I the one who will end up actually posting these updates.

Re: Contact methods
facebook worked for me, but not everyone has it.
I also voted for other: reddit. Some of us visit the languagelearning subreddit, and the main advantage is no need for subscription for reading. But I don't know how many of us go there.

Actually this is a really good idea since status.language-learners.org could be hosted on a completely separate server. It would also allow posting maintenance, or upgrade notices, planned outages, etc.

Well, we haven't actually set up a status page, so it must be due to that.
Afaiu it was just an example, it can be any url.

Ahh yes. When I click on Visit Site it comes up with the standard 404 error.
