Could anyone reading this please inform any forum members they are in touch with that they should now be able to log in? Need to spread the word so people aren't left feeling confused and excluded! This excludes any forum friends you have who are GENUINELY banned!

You exceeded the maximum allowed number of login attempts. In addition to your username and password you now also have to solve the CAPTCHA below.
I gave answers to those puzzels/question and than was/is in. Is it a kind of 'bug' or it supposed to be so?
Supposed to be so. It is an anti-spam measure from one of the times we were getting hugely spammed. Anytime a mod would log in throughout the day they would be met with dozens and dozens of first-posts waiting to be manually approved. And they were mostly for 'medicines' or for graphic porn (with embedded videos!) so the Captcha helps to reduce our workload.
Thank you
I asked because I've never had to do it before (only for registration)

Since I don't do Facebook, I usually check the wiki first for outage news. There was nothing there this morning (Atlantic Standard Time). Still, I did manage to catch up with Serpent on Twitter who assured me that it was some kind of glitch. Thanks for the quick turnaround, emk. There will always be outages from time to time. We have too many moving parts for there not to be any. The difference between here and at HTLAL was we were left in the dark over there with absolutely no communication from our then administrator. Here, our administration is on it and actually communicates with us! What a novel concept, thanks!

Thanks so much for the quick fix! Although - for just a few seconds - I felt kind of tough and cool for being banned. Then I realized that I'm neither tough nor cool, by anyone's standards, and that it must therefore be a glitch.
Thanks for being on it! Your hard work is really appreciated!

I'm relieved that I wasn't actually banned and that the forum is up again so quickly.

Actually we only break it so it doesn't look to easy!
Just kidding, but it is awkward to change the tires while the car is still moving, and until we get into a good solid state this kind of stuff is going to happen. Hopefully all the improvements in speed and security will be worth you all bearing with us until we can get it done.
But if something doesn't break once in awhile, then we're not keeping things up to date and improved. We will always try to communicate whenever we know there is an issue and it is unfortunate the default message for this error implied you had done something wrong. But please check the FB, wiki, and HTLAL. We try to put the message out widely but if we are in the middle of repairing the problem we might get delayed. Rhian and Serpent really good at communications, so you normally get the message on those platforms not long after we know there is an issue.

Re: ACCIDENTAL BAN OF EVERYBODY'S IP ADDRESS—sorry, fixing it as quickly as I can.
When I was a lad, barely 13 years old, I worked as a "butt boy" during an international rifle competition including all of the trials, eliminations, et cetera. When I think about it now, very few of today's parents would be prone to encouraging their children to participate in such an activity.
Anyway, the work entailed hiding below a concrete parapet where the targets were located and, following the scheduled firing sequence, lowering the targets, marking them so that the shooters could adjust their sights, repairing the targets, combing the area for spent bullets, et cetera. After a couple of weeks, we were all able to judge the distance of the shooter by the delay between (a) the arrival of the bullets over our heads, which sounded like a very crisp CRACK!, and (b) the firing of the rifles, the sound of which arrived shortly thereafter as a short and somewhat muffled POP! At a range of 600 yards, the delay was quite noticeable, perhaps as much as one second: CRACK ........ POP. At a range of 100 yards, the sounds arrived separately, but were quite close together: CRACK..POP.
This is a roundabout way of saying that this "accidental ban" felt like a CR-Pp to me ... a little too close for comfort!

I must say that that got me pretty scared but I'm glad it was fixed, and here I was just trying to figure out what I had done wrong. I even sent you an email about it just trying to understand, I assume you must have gotten a lot of those today.
Thanks for the support.
