Chinese audiobooks

Postby Thomas Mc » Mon May 29, 2017 7:48 am

Do any of you have any idea how I might get hold of Chinese books with audio perhaps a CD-ROM or MP3?

I want to start reading Chinese (no interest in tackling writing it yet) but obviously the non phonetic nature of the language makes this very challenging.

I was thinking maybe reading the English version of well known books followed by the Chinese version.

Are there any audio books online perhaps the kind designed for the hard of hearing or maybe I should say blind people?

Currently I am in Taipei if anyone has local knowledge.

Learning Chinese through audio books

How to search (Volte et al.)
Chinese (Traditional, Mandarin - 中文): 有聲書 jianti / 有聲小說 {kealist says this term works better} (amphises, kealist)
Chinese (Simplified - 简体): 有声书 fanti / 有声小说 / 有声读物 * {有声读物 is the recommendation of a native speaker; for the other two terms, kealist says 有声小说 works better than 有声书} (amphises, kealist, Z.J.J)

There used to be links to radio readings of the Harry Potter books but I don't know if those are still out there.

Being in Taipei you should be able to walk into the Eslite flagship store and ask for audio books, as was mentioned say 有声书 or 有聲小說. Other than Eslite there is King Stone and one other very large book store whose name I cannot remember. These book stores are like Borders or Barnes and Noble in the US. The Eslite flagship store is open 24x7 and is huge so definitely try there. If it will help, ask for audio books similiar to these (you can show them these titles which may help);
...海底兩萬裏(5CD); 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
...八十天環游世界(5CD); Around the World in 80 Days
...福爾摩斯探案故事(5CD); Sherlock Holmes stories
These are audio books that I have albeit the included paper books are in simplified Chinese.

If you don't mind kids fairy tales....
...雙語幼兒園:安徒生童話(4CD); Andersen's Fairy Tales
...雙語幼兒園:格林童話(4CD); Grimm's Fairy Tales

If romance novels are palatable then look at
http://www.books.shushengbar.com
This is a fan site of Chinese novels which includes a synopsis of the book, links to the raws, any audio books or radio plays that they're aware of, and any fan English translations.

If you're less thrilled about romance, take a look at the 丁墨 (Ding Mo) novels on that site. Ding Mo books tend to be crime or business world stories with a romance thrown in.
