I LOVE THIS FORUM

Postby Sarnek » Sun Apr 24, 2016 4:26 pm

Sorry, didn't know where else to post. I hope this is not against the rules or something, because I love this forum and I'd never want to be banned. Also be warmed this might get cheesy, and not the good kind that you have on pizza.
Anyway, as you can see, I'm not much of a poster myself, but I was just thinking something about this forum the other day. And you know what, guys? I love this forum. The language ability is our highest achievement as a species, and the fact that so many of us are willing to restructure their way of seeing the world, with all its man-made boundaries and alleged differences amongst humans, through the mind-opening activity of learning a new language, is enough for this to be hope on our planet.
I foresee that one day, in a few thousand years, when linguists or xenolinguists will try to analyse our socio-models, this forum will be considered a lighthouse in a dark stormy night.
Also I don't know what I'm saying, but I hope you enjoyed the read.

Thank you for existing, LLF :)

That is contradictory. Are you sure it's not a typo?

Count me as another one that loves this forum. I looked at several others but they didn't quite fit my needs/wants like this one does.

I do sympathize with you rdearman ... I understand from admins on other forums that I frequent (unrelated to language) that the relentless spam is the biggest problem.

Also contradictory. Good cheese on pizza? Pfft highly unlikely ;) Maybe I'm developping cheese snobbery due to all of my French and Dutch studying. Man, I'm such a cheese buff now (not). Ahem, I know all the great cheeses I'll have you (not) know!

Yep, I love the forum too. Tiz most excellent indeed.

As for speech being a very 'high' accomplishment for human beings. I'm not so sure our future looks so great considering the continual reduction in the number of languages on the planet. Ahhhh free trade agreements, mass education, and mass media are so good for thinking and the spread of new languages aren't they not? (no, they're generally not). Ironically these things do help people like us teach ourselves languages in some contexts.
