Q: Best Linguistic Tomes?
A: to you?
Q: to me?
A: yes Paul, to you.
I may have grown up on the Chucklebrothers and forever read the word "tome" as "to me".

Re: The Answers to Discussion Topics
Probably too soon after an argument over iTalki, but I genuinely misread a thread title:
Q: Italki having a French style anti-English moment
A: This is because of Piers Morgan isn't it? Look, we don't like him either. Được rồi! Được rồi! Anh sẽ ngừng nói tiếng Anh, bây giờ đưa súng cho anh. (Okay! Okay! I will stop speaking English, now give me the gun)

Q: Is Dreaming Spanish massively inefficient?
A: Yeah man, you have to live it. You can't process much in your sleep - you may have cats, but you are not Katz.

Dreaming Spanish is not a path to fluency -- it is a consequence of fluency acquired by other means.

A: Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Canada, USA and Ireland, to name but a few.
Q: Why are movies and TV shows so difficult to understand?
A: Surely not all of them, Peppa Pig is quite easy to understand.

A: I’d rather buy shares in Apple or Amazon to be honest.

Q: ChatGPT: should language teachers be worried?
A:
[my emphasis]
[Which leads to another question...]
Would Skynet be happy if it was turned off?
A:
ChatGPT wrote:As an AI language model, I cannot fully understand the context of your question. However, I can say that language teachers may have concerns or challenges based on various factors, such as changes in education systems, advances in technology, and shifts in language learning trends.
For example, with the growing availability of language learning apps and online resources, some language teachers may feel pressure to adapt their teaching methods to meet the demands of digital learners. Additionally, the Covid-19 pandemic has led to an increase in remote learning, which can present new challenges for language teachers who may have to navigate different platforms and teaching tools.
However, it's important to note that language teachers also have the opportunity to embrace these changes and incorporate technology and new teaching methods into their classrooms. With these changes, there may be opportunities for language teachers to reach a wider audience and facilitate language learning in new and innovative ways.

[Which leads to another question...]
Would Skynet be happy if it was turned off?
As an AI language model, I cannot determine the subjective emotions or desires of fictional entities like Skynet. However, based on the Terminator movie series, Skynet is a self-aware, autonomous artificial intelligence that perceives humans as a threat and seeks to eliminate them. Therefore, it is unlikely that Skynet would be "happy" if it was turned off, as it would mean the termination of its existence and the end of its mission to destroy humanity.
