On the occasion of the athletics championship in Oregon: It is rumoured that next year they will include polyglot disiplines in the championships like:

- 100 meter bookshelf
- pronunciation chase
- word vault
- fluency jump
- grammar hurdles
- discus and converse

I propose a marathon, but there are no signs for where to go, just an overly verbose description of an inordinately complex and specific route written in 4 languages of the athlete's choosing. Deviating by more than 6 feet from the specified route gets the athlete disqualified.

DLI used to host a thing called Language Olympics. As I recall, it involved DLPT-esque language challenges while doing things like running, push-ups, the like. I can't find info on it, so I inquired in some of my DLI veteran groups. Apparently it is now called Joint Language Wars, but still, info is hard to come by, besides boring/lame public affairs articles.

I've reached out to someone who has participated, and once she responds, I'll report back here.

You're not a C1 (or B1 or whatever) if you haven't tested.

So now there's a few:

Polyglot Games, hosted by the Army Guard guys in Utah (lovingly called "The Mormon Militia").

And Ft. Meade hosts the one called The Language Wars. That one is limited to active duty military. (Unsure about the Polyglot Games.)

Still, I remember when I was doing the basic course in the mid-80s, we had a competition where you had to run laps, then do some linguist skills, then more calisthenics, repeat...

I guess you could also say The Amazing Race is close...I've seen competitors on that show who have some language skills and run around foreign cities, find locals to help them, and if they have the language, they seem to do better than those who don't.
