This appears to be the textbook for the course:
Understanding Second Language Acquisition
There are non-trivial summaries at the end of each chapter. One can circle back to an area of interest for more detail. I.E., read the summary first.
Two tiny snippets:
For successful grammar acquisition, attention to form is probably necessary. This attentional focus on form can be externally achieved by instruction or internally sought by self-study and self-directed analysis of the linguistic material available in the environment.
... Specifically, grammar (a) requires more interest, attention and hard work than other aspects of the language to be learned; (b) may even require more time to simmer and deploy than the learning of other aspects of an L2; and (c) can act as a gatekeeper to development in other areas of the L2 beyond formulaic repertoires, particularly sociolinguistic competence.
EDIT: I have redacted the url to the book since it is copyrighted material, although it seems possible that the academic blog which has the link is legitimately allowed to publish. If that is the case and someone can show me the permissions, then I'm happy to restore the link.

Here she announces that there will be a second edition of the book soon:

:
Originally from Spain, she spent a year in Germany (1983-1984), as an undergraduate studying Latin and Ancient Greek at the University of Munich. Although rusty now, her German was good enough up until the early 1990s to gain her the Großes Sprachdiplom from the Goethe-Institut. Her second home is Greece, where she was a Spanish-as-a-foreign language teacher from 1986 until 1993 (and where she also was trained as an EFL teacher at the British Council). She has lived in the United States since 1993 and became a dual citizen of Spain and the USA recently.

It might be advisable to remove the above link to copyrighted material.
In any case, Ortega's Understanding SLA was the textbook for the SLA course I took some years ago; it's excellent and I've referred to it many times since. I'm delighted to hear there will soon be an updated edition.

I had seen the title before, but thought it was about children growing up bilingual. But this is not the case, her definition includes anybody at any age dealing with a second or more languages.
