Shadowing.
....

I recommend shadowing as propagated, polished and exemplarily demonstrated by the polyglot Alexander Arguelles via his own website (http://foreignlanguageexpertise.com/) and Youtube. It is a kind of echo speaking. Mainly (not exclusively) with this self-learning technique, Arguelles has acquired over 20 languages. What is needed is a foreign language printed original along with a translation, plus an audio version. This is somewhat reminiscent of the Troy discoverer Heinrich Schliemann, who also worked with complete texts and translations, but there were no audio versions yet.

I tried shadowing on myself and my clients and found it extremely difficult, or rather it seems to have a very steep learning curve. However, a short time later I came across a more elegant and simpler technique that is similar in principle but additionally relies on pronunciation awareness.

Very briefly summarized, since I am still working on a more detailed article on this for my blog:
-You prepare a text so that it is familiar to you.
-Listen to the text and read it in the target language at the same time to practice the sound-script connections.
-If this works reasonably well and you have a basic understanding of the text, you need a voice recorder or cell phone with a recording function. Most smartphones have this built in.
-Then you record the following "di-monologue":
-You play a sentence "out loud" [It has to be "out loud" because otherwise the original won't be recorded with it, so no headphones], pause, and then repeat from memory. Then one continues with the next sentence.
-Then you listen to the recording and can compare your pronunciation and intonation with the original in peace and quiet, and become more aware of certain difficulties, but also of what you have succeeded in saying.
-Of course, this process must be repeated several times with the same text, so that the structures are trained practically parallel to the actual purpose of awareness.
