Can I be pernickety? The question is actually a statement with a question mark at the end. I was expecting a reason to be given. In a question it really has to be: 'Why is there no...?'

I now withdraw. Please don't despise me for this. 8-)

Quite the reverse, I want to thank you!

As for the reason behind my question, they have covered all major European languages in their frequency dictionaries but Italian is suspiciously absent:

There is Frequency in the dictionary : a corpus-assisted contrastive analysis of English and Italian published last year but I have no idea if it’s any good.

It's strange because I'd have thought Italian had a lot of demand. After looking at Routledge's official site (though I totally believe you) I'm struck as to why this is so. I feel like sending them an e-mail to ask why they have one for every major language except Italian.

And why is there no Duolingo course for Persian? Why is there no Language Transfer course for Russian? Why is there no Assimil course for Amazigh? Great is the mystery of faith.

Back to Italian wordlists, I'm more partial to the "Le mot et l'idée" series (in French) though you may also take a look at the "Mastering Vocabulary" or "Practice Makes Perfect" series.

Yes, I have the one for German. There are likely new versions, but mine's from the 60s or 70s. No internet words in it.

I only know monolingual alternatives.

Alma has similar books, but they follow an alphabetical order.
https://www.almaedizioni.it/en/catalogue/scheda/le-prime-1000-parole/
https://www.almaedizioni.it/en/catalogue/scheda/le-prime-3000-parole/
Click everything on the left under 'Anteprime' to see some pages.

This one has words divided to chapters according to topics, but there's no mention of frequency.
https://www.almaedizioni.it/en/catalogue/scheda/le-parole-italiane/

The Katerinov book (La lingua italiana per stranieri) is based on the 3000 most frequent words, but it also contains grammar. It's a very old-school book, the new words are always collected at the bottom of the page. You can find the pdf online. I studied Italian from this book and I found it very effective. Dialogues, grammar, grammar drills with the 3000 most frequent words. Nothing else. It's extremely compact, the first volume takes you to B2. (It really does. It's also available in 2 volumes because it's thick.)

And there's this if German is OK for you:
