French books are rubbish?

I only read half the thread so not sure if mentioned but Murakami's books are nice to read in French.
Content in french is on the whole 'cringe'. Perhaps it's cultural stagnation but their tv is quelconque... Their movies are as dull as government funded sculpture and their books are souless.
Houellebecq is a bad writer also but he paints a picture of the world that is worth checking out.
