If you can't speak Latin in Rome...

Postby Le Baron » Sun Aug 08, 2021 9:44 pm

...then where can you speak it?!

ScorpioMartianus seeks the Flavian Amphitheatre, Basilica of San Giovanni, the metro... The people of Rome (whose ancient buildings certainly recognise his tongue) are confused. One man loses his cool.

That's hilarious. I have to give the Romans credit because they all tried to help him.

I have such complicated, ambivalent feelings about this guy; but I can't help watching his channel, because his depth of knowledge about languages is amazing and his fluency in Latin is inspiring. There's a lot I really admire him for and I've learned a lot from his channel.

The awesome thing about this video is that he's so fluent, you would never guess he was speaking an ancient language if you didn't know.

I would like to see Old Norse in Iceland. I always hear Icelandic is really close to it.

It's not quite the same thing; but FWIW I really enjoyed this with Jackson Crawford:

What's there to criticize about him? I only know him for his Latin and Greek videos.

It doesn't really matter, mate. I don't want to criticise him. I guess I just wanted to praise him for the many things I admire him for without giving the false impression that I only have positive feelings about 100% of what he does. I do have some negative feelings about a minority of it; but it isn't really important.

Interesting. I have subscribed to the youtube channel of Jackson Crawford.

I this video you can see that Icelandic is basically the same as Old Norse. For the sentences, I understood the first one, no. 2, 3 and 4 I only half understood, and the last one I didn't understand.

When it comes to Latin, even if italian has changed just as much as Norwegian has, I think it should be easier to understand Latin, because it has been so ubiquitous in European culture up untill our time.
