I do have some negative feelings about a minority of it; but it isn't really important.

Then why mention it?

Why build this up into a bigger thing than it needs to be?

Now now, don't gaslight me. You either say what you feel about someone or you say nothing; especially if it's 'unimportant'. You can't expect someone not to enquire about something you suggest then shy away from.

I'm afraid that the vagueposting has piqued my curiosity all the more, Random Review. It would help if you could just explain a little bit the nature of your ambivalence - linguistic opinions that you don't agree with, or something about his character?

His videos started popping up in my feed a few months ago and I've enjoyed them, but I don't have any background in the languages or history that he covers.

Yes, it's not like there's anything wrong with discussing misgivings. I would find it interesting if it is about his approach to Latin/Greek or the nature of that video in particular. E.g. some people critique his use of reconstructed pronunciation, his accent/prosody.

Edit: genuinely not gaslighting. Will send a PM.

I admire him and his knowledge a lot but he has said a few things (not about language) in a manner that I have found hurtful in the past. He's clearly a nice guy, he hurt me by repeating certain ideas that are common and because he is so clear and precisely because I admire him, I felt hurt.
In this thread, I wanted to praise him for another excellent video and because of my own failings couldn't help adding the bit about feeling ambivalent.

This is a reflection of me not him and I think we would do better to leave the topic now (I am willing to give details by PM if you want).

I do, however, genuinely think it's OK for me to post about feeling ambivalent. In hindsight I can see that it was a bit childish and totally unhelpful; but I'm human and I don't think it is deserving of a big thing being made out of it. I'm honestly surprised by that.

If, on the other hand, you want to comment that it was a bit childish or petty, I can't argue. I can see that it was.

Ha, this is a pretty good troll.

They didn’t seem to understand too well or to even identify the language. Even if they studied it in school, they probably aren’t used to conversational Latin. Especially with the restored pronunciation.

He went to the wrong country. He should go to Vatican City. I wonder if it's hard to get there from Rome... 8-)

They speak a strange dialect in Vatican City.
