I scored B1 in reading on dialang

Postby Tom Busch » Wed Jul 14, 2021 7:17 am

Ok so I know that's not a big deal, but for a while I was starting to feel like language learning was a hopeless endeavor, due to age, attention span, time constraints, and other factors. Well I no longer feel that it's hopeless, even though I still have quite a ways to go. Glad I decided to try the test. :)

I'm glad you did to. It's nice to have an external marker that you are making progress.

Can you say more about your experience with dialang? How long did the reading test take?

Any other observations about the test?

You're not a C1 (or B1 or whatever) if you haven't tested.

It didn't take long at all. I didn't pay attention to the time, but I'm guessing maybe 20 minutes. There is a pre-test where they give you a list of verbs and ask which are actual Spanish verbs and which aren't. Then they ask some questions about your abilities. You can skip those two steps, but it says they use it to decide which test to give you, so if you skip them, you may end up with a test that is too hard or too easy. I don't know how accurate the test is, but I do know that I have improved quite a bit because I tried to take it like a year ago and didn't even finish the test, because I felt like it was a lost cause. They have different tests for reading, writing, listening, vocabulary and structures. I only took the reading one. I will try the listening one soon I think.

So the Dialang website is accesible for you? I've tried the last weeks several times to access it, but never got anywhere.
Anyone else having the problem?

Works for me too. It rated me C2 on listening comprehension for Dutch though, so maybe it's broken :)

Dialangweb.lancaster.ac.uk Status
Is dialangweb.lancaster.ac.uk down right now?
It's not just you! dialangweb.lancaster.ac.uk is down.

Do you get the same result? Or anyone else?

I guess the downforeveryoneorjustme website is broken because it gives me the same result, but when I click on the link just under the message dialang opens up!

Just a quick question, are you going to dialang with just dialangweb.lancaster.ac.uk or are you using the full address https://dialangweb.lancaster.ac.uk/ ? I have had a few instances where the version without https stopped working in my browser but using the full address did work. Probably something about DNS addresses changing while my locally saved version kept pointing to the old location. (Something I learned about when we had to set the IP address locally in order to be able to acces HTLAL because it no longer existed on DNS servers. Remember that one? )
