A) Russian, Esperanto, Cornish, Irish, & Spanish
B)
Esperanto: I have had a long standing interest in la internacia lingvo for quite some time. And, as I'm now officially a member of the UEA and TEJO, I really need to make sure my Esperanto is up to scratch. I love the simplicity and culture behind the language, and would really like to see it used in an international setting, and my first really international friendhip was through Esperanto. Honestly, sometimes I feel like Esperanto is more my real homeland than either India or Singapore.
Spanish: Spanish, though not all that useful in Asia, is fairly well spoken the world over. And while there is no explicitly Spanish seaking country in Asia, it has an important, if underappreciated, place in the Philippines. I was actually introduced to the wonders of Spanish by a Filipino friend of mine, and one of the first books I intend to read after I get a solid grasp of the language is going to be Sobre la indolencia de los Filipinos by Jose Rizal, the father of the Philippines. In addition to this, I know that many a polyglot on this forum speaks Spanish (there's even a Spanish language forum here), so there's also an element of pure Singaporean kiasuness here.
Irish: This is a language I've been fascinated with for a while. I have always found Celtic languages to sound very exotic. In addition to this, I feel a connection to Ireland as an Indian, 2 former British colonies with some interesting similarities, as well as independence movements that were in contact with each other. Moreover, I've seen how impressed Irish people are by an Indian such as myself knowing even a few phrases in the language. Imagine how impressed they would be if I could actually hold a conversation in the language!
Cornish: First, like Irish, I find this language to be exotic. Second, I find the story of the Cornish revival to be interesting, and it gives hope for the future, that Kristang can also become vernacular again. Hence, I would like to be able to speak some Cornish.
Russian: This one is because of how I like the sound, and the fact that I find Russian history and the Russian Orthodox Church to be fascinating.
I am aware that much of the effort in this post was not strictly speaking necessary, but I want my possible victory to feel that much more deserved, and this would likely have some use in clarifying my motivations for language learning even in the event that I don't win.

Re: Special Post giveaway!
I'll have a book thanks. Esperanto would be good, but I'll accept Spanish/Italian (with no markings or wear). Could you perhaps pop round in the car with it to save me the postage costs? You see I'm saving up for a new microwave.
Oh, I'm out most days between noon and four. So mornings and evenings are best. Thanks, you're a gent.

Late and passing up offer, but posting just to note my appreciation and respect for such an offer. I gave away about 1/3 of my books on our last move and most are still in boxes right now.

All of you should be getting your books, or already have them (don't forget your part of this deal: photo!), but my Canadian friend. Having some issues with USPS wanting to charge me $30 to send 4oz. If you have any hints, let me know.
