People who've figured out how to develop skills versus those who haven't yet.

People who've figured out why what they do works for them versus those who haven't yet.

wanna-be vs serious or semi-serious (those who show up full of enthusiasm never to be heard from again vs the regulars/semi-regulars)

flitterers vs stay the course (those who change languages or methods frequently vs those who stay the course)

I'm a semi-serious flitterer I think and definitely a reader

There was actually some analysis video-talk, either on polyglot conference or another platform a while ago. Can't find it anymore. But there was a way higher percentage than average of people in the autism spectrum, left handed, gay or other sexual preferences or identification. Very high percentage of male. Definitely a lot of Europeans and Americans. Some people are depressed or have psychological problems (me included).

It is an interesting mix of people. There are the travel junkies, the academics, linguists. Some people of mixed heritage, or trying to explore their own identity. Others from parents with traveling jobs who grew up in various countries, the occasional diplomat.

People I have met in real life who study many languages are actually often women in an university context. Just learners who finish one course after another, and then another. They were actually not really interested into this community when I invited them here.

The speakers and readers, I would agree, yes. There are people who go very deep into literature and read A LOT (so many readers here). Then of course people just very fascinated by a particular culture for reasons different depending on the culture.

More things:
The "perfect method"-hunter.
Language dabblers vs people concentrated on a single language.
minority language vs majority language learners

I think a lot of us like to write about themselves (me included).

I'm a life improvement junky, maybe, I think there are more, have to look into more logs. Anyway, people here are quite interesting.

At risk of making a light-hearted thread serious, I don't.

Categorising people means disregarding nuance. My view has always been that we are all more similar than we believe, and that when we tie our identities to particular surface activities, it distracts us from the things that unite us, the things we do the same.

My philosophy is that the things that we do the same are the things that really matter -- anything all successful learners have in common must be pretty damned important for learning languages, don't you think?
