PhD research on polyglots- help needed

Postby Voke » Fri Nov 27, 2020 6:01 am

Hi all,

I am a PhD student at the School of Education at Durham University in the UK. I am researching polyglots’ beliefs about language learning, and the strategies that they adopt to successfully learn them. I have a short questionnaire that should take no longer than 20 minutes to complete. If you are 18 or older and speak at least 4 languages at B1 level (CEFR) I would appreciate your help. The link is below. All responses are anonymous.

Many thanks!

Voke (ps. this questionnaire is different from the one I sent out last year)

There seem to be an awful lot of questions asking the same thing multiple times and an awful lot of questions presupposing particular attitudes.

Unfortunately, this is needed in a multiple item questionnaire in order to establish reliability of the responses.

That won't work if people have short term memory though. They'll just answer the same way. Unless you're trying to protect against people putting in random answers without even looking at the questions, I'm not sure what the point is.

Yes, the point is to be able to check that people answer questions addressing the same construct consistently.
