Hello
In trying to find good examples of what the CEFR levels represent, I came across these CIA Intelligence language Institute videos, where they have 4 categories of classifying people's skill at speaking another language.
https://www.cia.gov/careers/language-op ... scale.html
My question then is for those experienced enough with the CEFR levels, where do they fit in with the speakers in these videos?
To keep a long story short, I will be embarking on a language learning journey this year, either for French, Spanish or Italian most likely, as I am getting married and we will be honeymooning in Europe, we just have not decided where yet. Wherever we go, I would like to be able to speak the language a little bit and have set myself the goal of being a CEFR B1 level in which ever language I need in 6 months time. and would like to know what sort of result I can expect at b1 in comparison with the CIA Language school videos.
Thanks and have a great day.
Gray.

Re: CEFR and the CIA
I'd say B1 is roughly level 2 on ILR based on the video, although I'm not sure all the criteria align between the scales.
the CEFR level descriptions are widely available if you google them.

Equivalence with the European language proficiency scale CEFR
A table published by the American University Center of Provence gave the following correspondences between the ILR, the European language proficiency scale CEFR, and the proficiency scale of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL):[2]However, a comparison between the ILR self-assessment grids (reading,[3] speaking,[4] listening [5]) and the CEFR assessment grid [6] could suggest a different equivalence:[7]
CEFR ILR ACTFL A1 0/0+ NL, NM, NH A2 1 IL, IM B1 1+ IH B2 2/2+ AL, AM, AH C1 3/3+ S C2 4/4+ D
CEFR ILR ACTFL A1 0/1 NL, NM, NH A2 1+ IL, IM B1 2/2+ IH B2 3/3+ AL, AM, AH C1 4 S C2 4+ D
