reminds me of the Pole who was ticketed for speeding multiple times in the UK, but the "name" of the offender turned out to be "Driving License" in Polish.

It's absolute genius. Makes a deep statement about the Americanisation of Italian culture in the post-WW2 years (a phenomenon repeated over pretty much every bit of Europe) without acting like they were whinging or complaining. It was like a band holding up a mirror to the country. I also recommend Renato Carosone's other big hit: Mambo Italiano. Dean Martin's translated version totally misses the point of the original, which was again about the Americanisation of Italian culture. Dino Martino was instead trying to appeal to Americans who considered themselves Italian based on ancestry and had a very thin understanding of actual Italian culture...

Less "you know you're a language nerd when..."
But more "how you know you're learning Vietnamese when..."

From my notes today:

trung tâm - centre & down tơn
chợ - mảket
quẹo trái/ phải - to tủn left/right

This is a result of using the Telex method for typing Vietnamese. O + w = ơ, so 'town' becomes 'tơn', u + r = ủ, so 'turn' becomes 'tủn' etc.

When you are going through a DVD collection and are tempted to throw out anything that isn't dubbed into your target language.

Or even keep terrible DVDs because they have an audio/subtitle option in your TL!

When you are thinking of starting a thread: How many countries/cities have you had a haircut in?

And make the effort to count them.

When your son stops dating the Greek girl and you get annoyed because you've lost one good reason for learning the language, but you decide to do it anyway and hope he finds another Greek girl instead.

When you get language learning themed nightmares.

Last night in my dream, I got signed up by my dad to a very intensive and time consuming advanced German class (or rather a full time German learning school). After searching for the right building, the right floor, then the the classroom, discovering the schedule (no clue how on earth did my dream self plan to get away from working for a few months to attend a full time language learning schedule), and arriving to the class full of people (already a nightmare), I found out it was actually a Russian class, not German. I didn't actually want to learn Russian, but nobody cared. And after some more confusion, I found out I had brought with myself my old highschool Latin coursebook instead of either German or Russian one.
