While you are enjoying an ice cream at a Welsh speaking eatery called Castan, find yourself wondering whether the Welsh castan is related to the German Kastanie, and are delighted when you confirm that they both indeed mean chestnut.

Even though you can't speak any Welsh. Yet.

You're the go-to person at work for any questions involving languages and translations, even though it's not part of your job.

When you go into full creeper mode and start taking pictures of people's Chinese tattoos without them knowing, just so you can find out what they mean when you get home.

When you're happy you can identify one Japanese character even though you have never studied Japanese and when you can tell the difference between the Chinese surnames transcribed (nowadays, not the old Wade-Giles) Chang and Zhang :)

Also when you tend to pounce on all sorts of linguistic trivia.
