...when you read the news that the original Big Bird actor from Sesame Street has finally retired, and can't stop chuckling that the character will from now on be played by Matt Vogel.

When you try to joke about useless dead languages but still typo it as "useful"
When you take a pic of this to double-check if it happens to be correct in an obscure Romance language, rather than a clumsy attempt at Italian:

When you was tempted to ask one booklet for each language available to the Jehovah's Witnesses standing near your bus stop.

You know you're a language nerd when, after graduating with your BA in Applied Languages and starting a Masters in Translation, you're so excited when your Uni offers you the chance to learn another language alongside your MA that you jump right into Japanese for fun. :D

haven't read through the entire thread, sorry if it's been posted as I'm 100% sure many of you will know this:

... when you fiercely defend your estimation that you don't speak language X well, even though natives are amazed by your abilities.

(Happens everytime I explain in Russian why I speak Russian. It sounds so well because I've explained it a dozen times. Then they want to discuss politics and I'm like a deer in the headlights.)

Well well well...
I think I only visited this thread one time before.
But do you know what's going on the shore?
There is something of that I fully am secure
I just might be returning here for at least once more.

[Four Rhyming Lines in a Row]

"SGP, can you please, pwetty pwease, get back to topic?"

Alright... you know you are a language nerd when...

You write some lines such as those three plus one in a row.
And when you call yourself SomewhatGeekyPolygloto.
And when your language usage might seem to be trolling but this isn't the case
And when you t'ink of learning dem languij as not at all being inna a big maze.

When you use your queuing time at the hospital for continuing through your Arabic lessons.

That's me almost once a week after my cataract surgery.

When you see the word "mute" on a tv remote, forget yourself for a moment, and wonder what the mysterious many (/ˈmute/) button does...?

You know that you're a language nerd when you consider all alternatives to the more popular language that you're learning.

Should I learn Italian... or maybe Venetian, Piedmonteis, Neapolitan, Corsican, Sardinian, or Sicilian? Or how about Spanish? Wait no, too popular, maybe I should try Catalan, Valencian, Quechua, Galician, Guarani, or Nahuatl instead... I like Swedish, but wouldn't it be cool to learn Norwegian Bokmal, Danish, Icelandic, Faroese, Elfdalian or why not Old Norse? Decision, decisions...
