Vloggers or Youtubers for French?

Postby alexanderaxel » Fri Oct 18, 2019 1:10 pm

Hi all! Brand new to these forums!

I am interested in embarking on my journey of learning french. I learned italian to near fluency using many resources, of course, but my most used and favorite was following youtubers who make content specifically for those learning their native tongue.

If any of you have learned Italian in this way, you may be familiar with "Italy Made Easy", Lucrezia Oddone, Italiano Automatico, or Davide from Podcast Italiano, etc etc.

I am wondering if anyone knows of French equivalents. And if you're not familiar with the style of these channels, they create both instructional and everyday vlogging videos in both a mix of english and Italian, and completely in Italian, but often times speaking slower, annunciating clearly, etc, for those learning the language.

So far i haven't been successful in finding anything of the likes!

Suggestions and tips would be most appreciated!

I've heard good things about Français Authentique (a channel on YT). The creator is good friends with Alberto from Italiano Automatico and from what I understand it's a similar format. I think the YT channel has a lot of videos and there's also some kind of paid product that he created, similar to Italiano Automatico. I haven't used it myself, so I can't vouch for it but it seems like it could be what you're looking for.

My personal preference is Français Avec Pierre. I don't watch their channel as much these days but in the past I used their videos lot and found it immensely helpful in improving my listening skills. There are transcripts to the videos on Pierre's blog.

I've used Français Authentique as well, but I just don't care for Johan's style and delivery as much as Pierre and Noami's, and I take a hard pass on his self-help stuff, which he seems to do less of these days. But that aside, he does make very high quality videos too. My dislikes about him are completely superficial and admittedly a little petty. :?

Note from an educator and former ESL/test skills tutor: Any learner, including self-learners, can use the CEFR for self-assessment. The CEFR is for helping learners progress and not for gatekeeping and bullying.
