I actually went to her recent concert in Los Angeles. There's a definite downside to having a multi-lingual singer.
The audience was 80% Hispanic, waiting for her to sing in Spanish. And 20% Italian-American (plus me), waiting for her to sing in Italian. But she kept desperately asking if there were any Brazilians in the crowd (I think there was one) because she really wanted to sing in Portuguese. And she kept darkly threatening to sing in Romanian. I don't think she did, unless Romanian sounds like Portuguese.
But she'd start some song in Italian and the first verse would go great. Then I'd get really confused, and say "what happened to her Italian? I can't understand anymore" ... and of course she'd switched to Spanish. And then I'd kind of start to get the gist of the Spanish, sort of, and then all of sudden I couldn't understand any of the Spanish -- because she'd switched to Portuguese. For that one Brazilian.
It's also hard to find albums of hers that are completely in Italian. Even though she does Spanish versions of the albums, the Italian ones (recent ones, anyway) always have one or two Spanish songs on them, which is dead weight to me. One even had a song in English, and when she sings in English she doesn't pull it off 100%. Nothing's really wrong that I can put my finger on, no noticeable accent per se, but just a kind of weird flatness I don't think you'd here in a professional singer who was a native speaker of English. It's almost like too much accent reduction.
When she speaks English, there is a light Italian accent but she's quite fluent ...
