Re: Those progress bars on everyone's signature
Perhaps there should be a thread that explains all the various codes that can be used, to avoid further posts like this one.

There will be, once we decide which experimental features worked out really well. Right now a few of these are deliberately undocumented (outside of specific tech support threads) while people try them out.

Thank you very much for the replies!
And sorry if I offended anyone for writing the original post. I was just wondering what those bars were, and I thought it best to just ask.

No problem! We very much appreciate people's feedback on all these experiments. No matter where we all end up, we're using this new forum software as an opportunity to try out various experimental features, to see which ones make the community happy and the forum more useful, and which ones only looked good on paper.

Re: Those progress bars on everyone's signature
I've got to say, the progress bars are my new favorite feature. Not only do they provide accountability for me each time I see one of my posts, it's also fascinating to see what everyone else chooses to track their progress in.

I agree completely. It's a really nice feature of the new forum.
It's another thing to help with focus. "What do I really want people to think I'm doing?

Re: Those progress bars on everyone's signature
I am convinced that the progress bars are much more meaningful if their "caption" includes the target number. Then the reader doesn't have to hover the cursor over the bar to see the target number. The bars are meant to quickly and graphically display progress, at a glance. But they convey nothing without a number. They simply show that the progress is some portion of an invisible goal. So if your goal is to read 50 books, and you have read 20 so far, show "50 Books" and the bar will show your progress.

That's true. Hovering with a mouse cursor doesn't work when you're using a touch screen.
