awesome!
speaking of that, is it a good idea to hide the logs from non-members, like it was on HTLAL?

On the old page they weren't actually hidden, I can still see the sub-forum without logging in. But I do think it would be a good idea to hide them.

Why hide language logs? What better way to draw in new members than by making language logs visible?

I didn't even know what language logs were so I had a look. Some of them seem to be very interesting.
I'd definitely learn something useful if I found a Pashto learning blog.
Sorry, I meant 'log.'

Would people like me to split out the public vs. private language log discussion into another thread, so folks can discuss it at length without derailing the current thread too much? Apparently we can split threads now, and it would be fun to see if it works. :-)

I think the moderators/admins have to specifically allow access to guests and new users to see forums, and I don't think I gave permissions to logs, but it should be easy enough to revolk permissions for guests and new users (people with less than 3 posts)

Personally, I always intended my log to be public, and I'm happy to share it with anyone who wants to read it. I think that having lots public logs gives the community a lovely, lived-in feeling and attracts new users. But if people would like to keep their logs private, that's also an option. We could even support both choices if people wanted.

In general, I do think that should be some private forums. Not everything needs to wind up in Google's index forever, you know? :-)
