Re: HTLAL might be gone
First, Thank you, rdearman, for having the foresight to create this alternative.
Funny how everyone thought we were in the all clear yesterday. The company must allow a couple of days of grace period for non-payment since expiry was supposed to be on July 15th. We were warned well in advance. It really points out just how absentee FX really is. To let the domain of the top language-learning forum on the internet expire! Outrageous! If this, on top of everything else, doesn't spur us to create a new forum, I don't know what will.
Someone may get in touch with FX. He may respond. He may renew the domain, but this is our wake-up call. The pot has now, officially, boiled.
Anyway, looks like an auction with "NameJet" is in place for the domain with a starting bid of $69 US. The terms of the auction are a little too complicated for me to get into on a Saturday morning, but here they are: http://www.namejet.com/Pages/Terms.aspx. As it stands now, anyone can buy it. The only one who can renew it is FX with his username and password.

OK, misunderstood, still, we're sunk for now. Oh well, more time for actual language-learning!

Re: HTLAL might be gone
Thanks Serpent, rdearman... for helping to keep us together, glad I found you.
I won't be sorry to start afresh in a new community, but it would be a shame to lose so many valuable posts and resources in the original HTLAL.

It would be a shame for me to loose my "Fasulye's NOORDLYS log", because I don't have any backup of it.

Re: HTLAL might be gone
What a shame, was working only an hour or so ago for me. I too thought we might be in the clear, but apparently not! In any case, I'm glad there's this forum here for us to congregate in at the very least temporarily, and if not a good place as any for a permanent residence

Re: HTLAL might be gone
I've contacted FX via email, and he should have a grace period to renew before the domain goes to auction. I've been signed up for the auction for at least a year now, in case he failed to renew and missed the grace period, in which case I'd buy the name and then point it at the existing forum. I also had a phone number for him somewhere, and I've spoken to him in the past.
I have a backup of my log(s) up until the last couple of months, and my most popular posts.

Hi emk,
I hope very much that FX will react to your e-mail(s), if not, we'll have to phone him again and it's now weekend, so his company will be closed.
Good luck!
Fasulye
