UPDATE: thread to discuss a LLorg Portland 2017 meetup
I know there is the Polyglot Conference and the Polyglot Gathering. But I kinda like you people, on our little forum here.
Would there be any interest in a meetup that was just us? If so, what continent(s)* would make sense?
I'm envisioning something informal and relaxed, not centered around talks & panels but just meeting each other face-to-face, interacting in whichever languages we want, etc.
But maybe I'm the odd one out for wanting such an event, in which case never mind me.
* It very well might make sense to have two events, a North American and a European one, for travel expense reasons. Stupid oceans. Assuming there's even interest in the first place.

Corrections welcome in any language; I prefer an informal register.

Sounds fun, could do teleconferences between the two events or start by playing Werewolf

I think it sounds like fun too, but I think it's also fine to just meet at the Polyglot Gathering and other events too. It seems like a lot of work to organize something and I don't know how many people we'd be able to get to attend. I couldn't even get people to come to the Skype call for Finnish that time.
And we did get to hang out together a lot at the Polyglot Gathering last year, so it was like a small LLOrg Gathering inside the big Polyglot Gathering. I'm not against having our own meet-up; I just mean that we had kind of what you are talking about (face-to-face informal chatting and hanging out) in the evenings and breaks during the Gathering and also frequently sat together in lectures.

Re: LLorg/HTLAL in-person meetup event
We tried to organize a meetup at the gathering in Berlin last year, but even though a number of us were present at the event we couldn't get them to all of them gather in any one place at any time. I don't know how many we could have expected, but some of us were definitely present - and I'm sure there were a number of HTLALiens/LLorgs present who didn't tell us their net names. So trying to get people to travel to an event solely for forum users would probably be a bad idea. I'm not personally into net meetings, but that seems to be the only realistic way to go.

Re: LLorg/HTLAL in-person meetup event
Wasn't this precisely the idea behind the gathering in Berlin, with the side effect that it eventually grew to include other language learners? We could just wear HTLAL badges this time or something. But I'm all for more meetup events.

I kind of like the idea of LLOrg badges. Hats. T-shirts. A secret handshake! (OK, that was maybe enough coffee for today. Time to switch to herbal tea.)
