I've sort of stopped paying attention to discussions of what will happen with the old, beloved HTLAL site. It was a great resource, and nobody there owes me anything; I'll still use the old site for searches on topics...
I do have one comment on this site, however.
This site is already too good to let go away even if all problems with the old site are fixed. Short of a complete seamless integration of content, and an upgrade of the old site's software, I would be very unhappy to lose all of the functionality, transparency of administration, and content of this new site. I'm willing to help pay for it
I have no problem with there being two sites, if that is what it takes. Maybe the statement at the top of page here could state that this is an alternative to the old site; we could even put a link to the old site there, since it is functioning, sort of.
It would be nice if there was a link to this site at the old HTLAL.
We could even set up a google search of the old site from here, if that isn't illegal somehow.
A single site would be optimal, but two sites is fine, as long nobody from the community gets lost, and the great information in the old site isn't lost.
Non-HTLAL is too good to let die.

Re: Non-HTLAL is too good to let die.
That's also my position. This evening I have added to my personal log threads in both fora, and I intend to continue doing that. The possibility to add pictures directly here (instead of just putting reference to other sites in the messages) means that there will be certain themes I can treat much more elegantly here because I can add an illustration within the site itself. We just have to be careful about not bombarding this place with enormous pictures, not only because they take up space on a harddrive somewhere, but also because that would destroy the layout.
But that being said, HTLAL has been like a home for me for many year now, and I see no reason to stop writing there - unless of course I end up being the only one left in the wilderness. Let's hope it won't end like that, because then it would presumably be closed down for good. I for my part will do what I can to keep both places running.

This forum is great
I have only one criticism: the title with the phpBB logo, this isn;t pretty or nice. A picture would be better. Now it seems incomplete and low quality.
Emk, Rdearman and Iversen are fantastic admins and mods in ym opinion, and the forum functions much better here as well.

And perhaps a new byline, like HTLAL The Next Generation.

I thought exactly the same thing.
Language: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship HTLAL. Its continuing mission: to explore strange new words, to seek out new sounds and new foundations, to boldly go where no one has gone before.

Well then, is EMK Data, or Laforge? And who has to learn Klingon?

After reading some of his recent posts, I'd say he has to be Data. I don't know who is going to learn Klingon. I'd like to, but I tried once and it gave me a sore throat.
