Re: Rdearman (FR, IT, ZH) 2016/17 - The way of the lazy fist.

More number use is the key. Haitian Creole uses the same French numbers. After I finished Genesis and the first chapters of Numbers in the Bible, I have no problems with them. The HC version of the Bible writes out the numbers in words alongside the numerical. Another key that I found helpful to me ...

Portuguese Yes, Systematiker, I am a Kurosawa fan. The man was a cinematic genius. I love the long shots, the sets, the characters, the plots, the soundtracks. I highly recommend his films in any language. I saw " A Fortaleza Escondida " (The Hidden Fortress) earlier this year with Portug...

Re: PM's French Target: C1 2018

The more I do this, the more I see that there are many paths to learning a language. Language-learning is humbling. Having been around now for several years, I have had each one of my assumptions challenged and refuted to some degree. I always thought your approach was too heavily skewed towards cou...

Re: The iguana's tale- Portuguese, Spanish, Haitian Creole and Ladino

Summer is here, which means for me that I wake up earlier with the sun. It rises here at 5:45 in the morning and goes down now at around 7:00 pm. This time of year, in my 17 degrees north latitude, it rises in the northeast right in my bedroom window at sunrise, which definitely wakes me up. So, I h...

Re: English: All skills. How to reach C2.

Corrections can help us to see where we've got work to do. The quality of corrections is another matter. Sometimes corrections can be more about style than about correct usage. I don't like correcting here on the forum because it takes a lot of work. First, there's trying to figure out what the pers...

Re: How fast can you learn a related language?

To play devil's advocate- the devil is always in the details. When I had learned Spanish to an advanced level, probably C1, I decided that Portuguese would be my next language. It's true that I started with a huge advantage and could understand the gist of formal writing easily before I started. The...

Re: Con calma, a new and better log for 2017

...Cyrillic reading is an interesting experience for me. I suppose the reading learning stage I am at is similar to that of children learning to read. I read slowly, I know some of the letters better, some need more remembering, the reconstruction of each word in my mind takes a moment, I am someti...

Re: The iguana's tale- Portuguese, Spanish, Haitian Creole and Ladino

Ladino/Djudeo-espanyol I'm still reading the book I started a couple of weeks ago. I'm not making a huge effort with it, just a little each day in the mornings, sometimes an hour sometimes 20 minutes. Reading in Rashi script is something I very much enjoy doing. It gives me a feeling of exhilaratio...

Re: Mork's Log 2017

That's a nice compliment, Mork, thanks, :) , but I do indeed read light and breezy books sometimes with more than a touch of romance on occasion. I really enjoy good writing. After you finish the book, you might enjoy listening to this long interview with Laura about the book on Mexican Radio where ...
