Re: Assimil German without Toil (1965)

There are some 78s for l'allemand sans peine on ebay.fr at the moment - no international delivery by the looks of it, but I think 78s must be before the 1965 edition - I have records from that year and they are 45s. http://www.ebay.fr/itm/methode-de-langues-Assimil-lallemand-facile-78-tours-/1224967...

Re: Native Content available for Old English

Just in case there is any confusion, Shakespeare and the King James Bible are considered to be early Modern English - you should have no problem with those if you have a good edition that pays attention to language (such as the Arden Shakespeare editions). With the KJV the translation committee did ...

Re: Assimil German without Toil (1965)

Jokes aside - German Without Toil has some antiquated vocabulary - for example, it prefers 'verzeihung' for 'pardon' instead of entschuldigung (although people will still say verzeihung) or Jawohl in situations it would never be used. It is in the formal register (much more Sie than du). It tends to...

You will also learn how to avoid going to dinner parties with neighbours you don't like. What modern language course teaches you that?

Re: French In Action, as a learning device?

Maybe I am - but I only have a B1 certificate :D

Having read emk's blog, I definitely need to work on getting my speaking and hearing more fluid to pass B2. My writing would probably come short as well.

Re: Course Completion Challenge -- Open for business!

Linguaphone German is complete - although I realise from the last three lessons that I need to do a lot more work on both the Konjunctiv I and II. I enjoyed the course - but I think it needs to be done with a grammar book as the notes only point to where to go. The same, I suppose, could be said for...

Re: French In Action, as a learning device?

I was probably just in the A2 level when I started FIA - it took me 2 years to complete FIA - but I did it alongside other courses and materials - watching TV series (mainly dubbed - children's cartoons, Buffy, Star Trek, Dr Who, etc and some native films), reading the CLE and Hachette graded reader...

Re: French In Action, as a learning device?

Maybe this thread could go back on topic - i.e. French in Action as a learning device?

Re: French In Action, as a learning device?

My impression from articles like the link below was that during the period of intensive study (4+ months) at FSI candidates did 5 hours every day of classroom activity and then the rest of the day doing grammar and language lab studies:
