Re: Spanish Group

Do you plan on reviewing the words after you write them down, or will it be enough to just become familiar with their definition and wait until they’re encountered again? Last one. The way it works is that you'll write down the definition of unknown words the first time you encounter them, along wi...

Re: Spanish Group

So far in my Spanish journey I have done nothing but to listen listen listen all the time. Even when I've been reading, I've been listening along (audiobooks, courses). But what if my listening comprehension could be even better if I propped it up with more vocabulary from reading? Hearing blaurebel...

Re: FSI Spanish Walkthrough

Even on the tape recordings it's possible to notice this necessity for masculinity and manhood that's bordering on desperation. I'm happy I live in a time and place where I don't have to prove myself all the time and conform to these archaic gender conventions. At least not as much as in mid-century...

Re: The iguana's tale- Portuguese, Spanish, Haitian Creole and Ladino

Perhaps I may do something similar with Portuguese. Please do! Brazilian cinema is a huge blind spot for me, so I would love to follow a log like that. Pedro Costa from Portugal is in my opinion one of the most interesting filmmakers working today. If you're new to his work I could recommend checki...

Luísa Maita is amazing! And another great São Paulo based artist is Juçara Marçal and her Metá Metá. Someday I'll learn to understand this beautiful language.

Re: FSI Spanish Walkthrough

kanewai: yes, it's a curious course, and by all appearances a great one. I'm excited to start on the subjunctive units. Have you reached that point yet?

jeff: thanks for the links!

Re: Spanish-language cinema: a log

El compadre Mendoza (Fernando de Fuentes, 1934) The eponymous anti-hero of this early Mexican classic has found his place in the Mexican revolution by being equally friendly and hospitable towards both the zapatistas and the governmental forces. By turns, he's welcoming both fractions to his hacien...

Re: FSI Spanish Walkthrough

Thanks for the encouragement BOLIO. I kept it up with one more unit today: Unit 23 Yet another conjugation unit, but today it was just a lot of fun! I don't know, things were just flowing wonderfully and I felt truly fluent for the first time with FSI. It was almost as if there was someone else answ...

Re: DELE group

I have almost decided I want to sit the DELE exam one year from now, most probably July 2018. There's really no reason for me to do this (I'm an engineer working for a German-owned software company in Norway without any relocation plans for the foreseeable future) other than for the challenge itself...

Unit 22

Another conjugation unit. Not fun. At least I'm progressing through the course.

On to the next one.
