Re: Five Golden Trees

Welcome back! I personally can only do one Duolingo tree at a time and even then I usually end up getting sick of it and taking breaks. Still, I've managed the Spanish and Esperanto trees and most of the German one so far. It's a helpful supplement, but I don't think I would get very far with Duolin...

Re: The Super Challenge rules and registration 2016-2017

I just tried to tweet a movie, but the bot tweeted back that I'm not studying that language. However, I had tweeted a movie in that language earlier and it was OK. Or at least, the tweet was answered in the normal fashion. I can't really tell if it got added to the list because I can't see the list...

Re: A useful spanish resource

Lots of their shows have subtitles and transcripts and are available without restrictions. I've watched both in Norway and in the US without problems. I love that they've chosen to do that. It makes it so much easier to learn Spanish.

Re: Con calma, a new and better log for 2017

Aaronovitch is winning my heart (as a writer of course!), as not only the main hero has to learn Latin for his magic studies, but now he was normally asked by his master "How's your French?" and had to disappoint him, and settle for a less quality reference book in English. In general, I ...

Re: The Super Challenge rules and registration 2016-2017

It's taking long  If you or emk have a backup domain can it be used for the bot in the meanwhile? I second Serpent. Not being able to see the page makes it very confusing. I just tried to tweet a movie, but the bot tweeted back that I'm not studying that language. However, I had tweeted a movi...

Re: Study group for people tricked into learning CZECH (or SLOVAK) -- those learning of their own free will also welcome

Thanks for the motivational speech. I might have to reread it a few times over the course of this journey. I was just looking at the blurbs on the back of my Star Trek books and I think I know what the word "planet" means. So that's one word down and about 14 999* to go. I like that you ca...

Re: Study on Language Improvement with Native Materials

I think the gist of this experiment is for the test group to study using a method similar to emk's experiment with using subs2srs to make Anki cards of a favorite TV show, which was based on Sprachprofi's similar experiment to learn Japanese. (Threads on this technique can be found on this site and ...

Re: Study group for people who've been tricked into learning CZECH -- those learning of their own free will also welcome

Like I said, "If there were Star Trek books in SLOVAK, I would learn SLOVAK." I never said anything about Czech, but somehow I got caught up in this maelstrom of madness anyway. Anyway, Slovak learners are also welcome. I'll change the title to reflect that. Edit: I hit the limit for how l...

Re: Study on Language Improvement with Native Materials

I would be super interested in participating but the thought of making my own subs2srs decks and aligning subtitles makes me hyperventilate. Should only people who don't freak out at the idea of being in the test group apply? Rdearman promised to make a super-easy step-by-step guide with screen-sho...
