Re: Miscellaneous language material inquiries!

I have one further question for those who have used exam prep textbooks like the ones discussed here for German, or French... or for any other language. I have never used any books like this (to prepare for a language level certification), I have only used commercial language learning materials (an...

Re: zenmonkey's multilingual adventures of a traveller

Got to the bookstore and picked up a few books ... and not shown a cheap Basque travel guide. There where also old copies of ASSIMIL Spanish and English (the brown ones, I sort of regret not picking up). IMG_4254.JPG My youngest daughter was singing in English today - she's in a chorus and these are...

Re: Odd materials at the university lessons

Here's my take on this material and it's appropriateness - first off, it isn't some random material chosen without thought and outside of an educational framework. The OP's post in its brevity allows for all sorts of interpretations which then led the thread to take polarised views. Personally, I ca...

Re: RR in Spanish when you can't trill

Have you guys mastered the /x/ sound? Ojo, Oaxaca, Eugenio? I'm trying to get my French daughters to pronounce these correctly and success is .... mixed. The Spanish J (/x/) exists already in the French "des banlieues": http://www.dictionnairedelazone.fr/dictionary/lexical/k/khey :-) Uhhh...

Re: Expug's 2017 Log - It's now and forever

Fremdsprachenlernen mit System finally moved on from regular class and is now discussing self-learning again. Much more interesting and much easier to follow now. I am also reading this currently - and finding it both interesting and not too difficult a read. Nice to see someone else is using the s...

Re: zenmonkey's multilingual adventures of a traveller

Despite the best intent, this was certainly not a week where I got everything I wanted to do in Hebrew done. Tomorrow morning is my lesson and once again, I find myself finishing off homework with half a heart the night before. I've been carrying a tension headache for a few days and that kills moti...

Re: Tracking spreadsheets?

As for doing two things at the same time I have to say that watching TV in languages I more or less understand while doing word lists in another doesn't seem to hamper my learning - and even less listening music. But two difficult linguistic at the same time is a no-go. I can listen to music while ...

Re: Tristano's log 2017: Hebrew (A.K.A. The undecided language learner)

Just quipping in as another person that enjoys your log and feels much like a kindred spirit (in fact, huge overlaps...). The tension between what is out there and possible and todays current focus is probably a good thing - it may be the only filter of activities don't bring value to you. As to the...

Re: RR in Spanish when you can't trill

Maybe the problem with 'perro' is going from that 'p' sound into the trill? Have you tried practicing with transitions that are a little easier to master? Try going from a velar or glottal to r like in the name Jorge /ˈxorxe/. Have you guys mastered the /x/ sound? Ojo, Oaxaca, Eugenio? I'm trying to...
