Re: Lilly's log - French, Russian, Spanish and Italian

French So, I've been playing a lot of Lord of the Rings online yesterday and I'm really enjoying it. The quests aren't as repetitive as in WoW and you get instance quests where you go with an NPC and try to achieve something that brings the main story forward. It's also lovely to suddenly end up in...

Re: Lilly's log - French, Russian, Spanish and Italian

Whatever it is that you're afflicted with it sounds like it sucks. Chin up. Thanks. Indeed, it sucks. But well, I do get long stretches of semi-bearable health, because I've figured out some things over the years. But then it's always this constant up and down that gets to me. I can't really predic...

Re: Lilly's log - French, Russian, Spanish and Italian

Still feeling like death. I even had to drop doing an interview for this issue of our magazine, because it would have to be in this month and my health definitely requires catlike activity levels these days. I also can't travel to my next exhibition in Germany although it's the first exhibition in a...

Re: Why are fictional shows/films so difficult to understand ?

Yep, this. However, I would NOT recommend dubbed shows, because to me the material as a whole still isn't "real" French (by francophones for francophones). That's really the point though. If "real" French content still leaves you all confused and you simply have to rewind all th...

Re: Ani's 2017 Log

Speaking of Russian food :D . As a kid I hated borscht (борщ) and any other soups. Many kids did. Oh, me too! I don't like any soups, they all seem to get more on the plate rather than less and when you aren't allowed to get up until you finish your plate, it takes unbearably long to eat! By the wa...

Re: Lilly's log - French, Russian, Spanish and Italian

So, my first day of officially doing nothing went like this: Some 2.5h of Lord of the Rings Online in French, some La venganza será terrible while walking into town and back, an episode of Transfert while sitting in the sun, 15min of speaking in Spanish with my doctor. Things got complicated while e...

Re: Ani's 2017 Log

While I wouldn't reduce Russian cuisine to borscht, To sum up my aunts cooking: Borscht, Pelmeni, Blintzes, Plov, and oodles of meat with potatoes. Everything seems to be deep fried in half a litre of oil too. And then they wonder about gall stones  And of course, turning down your relatives ...

Re: Lilly's log - French, Russian, Spanish and Italian

French So, after 6h of gameplay it's time for a little update on the usefulness of Lord of the Rings Online for language learning. So far I'm really impressed with the game and it seems like there is lots of content available, and theoretically all for free. Like mostl Free to Play games, this actu...

Re: Why are fictional shows/films so difficult to understand ?

I think understanding movies and natives talking among each other is much harder than conversational comprehension. People usually slow down a little when you yourself aren't speaking at lightning speed. A good progression to develop listening comprehension that worked for my Spanish was lots of con...

Re: Tarvos' новый лог

My parents really had a crucial influence on my literacy. I always read what my dad was reading and that was tons and tons of fantasy, first in German, later in English. And my wish to understand Russian Sci Fi also comes from my dad who was obsessed enough to read it with a paper dictionary for lac...
