Re: Advice for self-taught German improvement.

Clozemaster would probably be good at helping target gaps in addition to regular exposure to native German media. For many of us here, taking a class isn't the obvious thing to do, but if you do want instruction then I would suggest italki. I suggest reading Iguanmon's post on the multi-track approa...

Re: Countries with the Best Foreign Language Education

Second language education in school is actually really really bad and I know that up until at least 10 years ago it wasn't even compulsory (edit: in compulsory school). Language is interesting, is it not? The use of a single word above, for me, changes the whole tone of your comments above. Bolding...

Re: Morgana lär sig svenska?!

I'm pretty late to the party, but I thought I would add my voice anyway. When I first started learning Swedish, I was interested in developing my receptive skills. In fact For Swedish, I'm focusing on developing passive skills, in particular my reading comprehension. It would be nice to be able to s...

Re: Languages you have never had any interest in learning ??

I refuse to respond to your argument for it conflates things that arise naturally with things that are artificial; the difference is too fundamental for me to think of an answer. Perfectly fair, no offence taken and no spite or negativity inferred. I used books as an example as they're the only thi...

Re: Languages you have never had any interest in learning ??

On another note it perplexes me to no end that we can have a forum for people who are interested in languages who can still hold the opinion that certain languages are ugly, or even that a human language can possibly be ugly or unpleasant. I just don't get it. Why? I'm interested in books - in fact...

I don't know if I've mentioned this, but I did too. It's also thanks to you that I found out about HTLAL. Thank you!

Re: Languid Language Learning

Thanks for the good luck wishes! I'll definitely need it! No! Avoid the subject. Change the subject. Never say 'meh' of a gift. PS Best of luck with the move! EDIT everything on my currently reading list, for example, has been excluded. That's a further twenty-something books I was telling myself of...

I take issue with that. I think I'm the laziest learner, I don't even coast along with the things I can do! (I'm sure rdearman would also like to take umbrage but I think his new French routine disqualifies him)

Re: Languid Language Learning

Moving day update: Today I wrote a list of books I really want to bring with me. They number 29. And I know I didn't get all of them (everything on my currently reading list, for example, has been excluded. That's a further twenty-something books). I only have 30kg of luggage. Other stuff - language...

Re: Languages you have never had any interest in learning ??

This time last month I thought I'd never want to learn Spanish - and now I'm thinking 'oh, but I might just have to!' Apart from Spanish (and Italian, to a lesser extent) I can't think of any language I've never wanted to learn. I can think of plenty languages I will probably never care to make time...
