I wonder why He told you to learn French.

Realistically, I look back and think it was my choice and only my choice to attempt Dari; my attitude was more like "Lord, I want to learn Dari! I'll make it happen!" And it turned out not to be fun. I find that if I do as He says, then my life is more pleasant.

I feel that eventually I'm called to move out the U.S., and possibly to Europe. I confess the Korean seems more strange than French.

Also the bears in the countries where they are cruel and for exmaple they must dance and live in a small cage. St Francis didn't say that I had to learn Spanish, but it would be useful, obvoulsy. I think that the bears are in China, but I can't learn Chinese, it's too difficult, so I will probably donate some money to the bear charities.

what I like about being a Christian, is that He doesn't expect me to fix the world; He might call me to a single task, or maybe a few tasks, and I can have peace about that. There are a lot of injustices in the world, and ugliness, but I believe it's not forever; for those that call Him Lord, we'll see the new Heaven and new Earth.

Are you a nun?

I agree, an individual can't fix the world, only for example one task.

I'd like to free all the birds who are in a cage, and that it will never take place again that a bird is in a cage. Then I'd like to look after all the birds and animals who the humans have hurt, and also the ones in the sea like the sharks who are killed cruelly for the fin. I was very upset when I read that some people cut off the shark's fin, and put the shark alive in the water again, but then it's impossible to swim etc. but it's not really connected to the langauges.

French and German would be more useful in Europe, of course, than Korean

No, not a nun.

Indeed, German is on my top-five list. :)

Re: Xenops Tackles French and Korean! (and maybe German)

I haven't done a whole lot this week. My French study hours are: 36.3. I'm a third the way through chapter 6 of French in Action. I've only had to refer the user's guide a couple of times. I want to make time to plug sentences into Anki, so I can review the material, as it kinda builds on previous material, but mostly it presents new material. I need to work with more native material, too, and some writing practice. I feel if I practice Pimsleur or some other pronunciation during the day, I can make the R's; on days I don't practice first, I struggle. I also don't tend to say them when doing spontaneous speech, I revert back to American R's.

And yes, I've started Korean. I'm using Korean from Zero!'s website for learning Hangul. I'm strangely excited about this language: yes, it was in my top-ten, but at the bottom of my top-ten, initially. I feel God wants me to learn this language, and He's given me a strange enthusiasm for it.

Next week I hope to spend more time on both languages, as I have a microbiology exam due on Monday. :? My rotations coordinator is trying to find me a spot in Tacoma, and I would get hired there after internship: I've been praying for this opportunity, as this would allow me access to native speakers in person (I really prefer in-person practice).

(Corrections are welcome). :)

My language-learning companion for the past six years died on me. It's only an iPod classic, but I went to Japan with it, and I also got it when I went to a university very dear to my heart. It's name was Diomedes, in case you want to know (yes, I name my small, expensive electronics). I could put all of my podcasts and Pimsleur on my iPhone, but listening to things on there is unwieldy, and I don't want to constantly lug it around with me (and have my program interrupted by a telemarketing call). And, I suspect phones have more EMF's than a regular MP3 player? Maybe not. So I'll have to budget for a new one in the future.

That, and recovery from eating popcorn a few days ago--I noticed that if I have sugars or grains after a long fast from them, and then no more sugars or grains, my mood is negatively affected for a day or two as if from a withdrawal. So, those are my excuses for lot being productive in language learning. I'm almost done with French in Action chapter 6. Lately I confess I'm conflicted about Korean--lately I feel that God has been testing me, "if you want to obey Me, would you be willing to--?" (refer to Abraham's near sacrifice of Isaac as a risky, Biblical example). These are tests to see if you're willing to set aside your will to obey His will. The thing is, He might be asking if you're willing, not for you to actually do it. That's the spot I'm at right now.

The reason Korean is a test is because I love the Japanese language and culture; but I have felt that God has told to put it aside for the time being. I haven't studied Japanese since last summer. To be honest, that's a real test because I hold all things Japanese dear; perhaps too dear, and I would not be willing to turn my eyes to what He would have me do. I confess, I would not have picked up French, because it always came second to Japanese. But because I obey Him and put Japanese aside, I'm willing to study French (which I feel I'm supposed to), and possibly Korean (which I'm still unsure about).

Back to mood, for my regular food consumption, I'm something similar to a ketogenic diet, which gears your body to metabolize fats rather than carbohydrates. I noticed that I am more alert when I practice this diet, and more focused during the day. The trick is to avoid carbs (which, in turn, limits how often I eat out).

http://drhardick.com/the-nutrition-plan/the-advanced-plan

The more good news? As long as I eat from this diet, I will never have to worry about diabetes. It's a huge problem in the U.S., and I have a family history of type 2 diabetes.

For study times I have:
French: 40.4 hours
Korean: 2.6 hours

I still meet with the girl that took French in high school, and our weekly routine is to watch the French in Action video together, and then some assignments. We both noted the creeper behind Mireille with some amusement:

I also finished chapter 6 (I need to update my signature bars!) I'm slowly moving through the second season of Wakfu: I thought the first season was fantastic, the second season started well, and then it petered into pointlessness. The main problem is that there's no serious concrete goals, like in the first season, and it suffers for it.

I'm feeling good about Korean again, and I found these two books for a reasonable price on Alibris :

I really feel pronunciation is something to tackle early, maybe even earlier than writing. I'm still using Korean from Zero to learn the Hangul. I listened to the first Pimsleur Korean unit from the second edition (leosmith wrote a review on it), and I'm hesitant to use it solely for pronunciation. With French, I sought videos and examples to improve my R's, and other sounds. Pimsleur is great for practice, if you look up how to the make the sounds outside of it.

For something random, I had bought two Assimil bundles from Schoenhof's for my future endeavors (who can pass up a complete Assimil set for $34?!), and I had a weird dream where I opened the bundles and discovered a set for a language that I didn't expect, and the other one had no Assimil at all but...Old pizza.

Edit: As far as I know, I did the link codes correctly. Help?
