Except for Germany:

As a child (when I couldn't decide where to go)
  • Hungary (3 times)
  • Yugoslavia (Krk - afaik Croatia)
  • Spain
  • Italy (South Tirol)
  • Austria
  • England

As an adult
  • Turkey
  • Ireland
  • Mexico
  • Egypt

Travelling had never anything to do with language learning. Except for Mexico which awakend my interest in languages in general. Though I still can't speak Spanish yet. Longest trip was Ireland, where I spent about 3 weeks. My last trip was Egypt, which is already 4 years ago. But I hope I can change this very soon.

I've been to:

    Europe:
  • Almost all regions of Spain and Portugal.
  • France (Nîmes, Paris and Reims).
  • Italy (Milán x2, Firenze x2, Pissa, Genova, Cinqueterre, Roma, Venezia, Livorno)
  • Vatican City
  • United Kingdom (London, Liverpool, Leeds, Durham, Manchester, Edinburgh, Newcastle, York...)
  • Bulgaria (Sofia, Veliko Tarnovo ...)
  • The Netherlands (Amsterdam)
  • Turkey (Istambul, Mersin...)

    Asia:
  • Taiwan: all major cities and villages
  • Japan: Tokyo and Lake Kawaguchiko
  • South Korea: Seoul
  • Hong Kong

I have lived in Reims, France (4 months), Durham, United Kingdom (1 year) and Taipei, Taiwan (6 months).

I hope I can travel to Australia someday, and also in Europe I want to visit Scandinavia (Sweden, Iceland, Norway, Finland) and more places soon :)

I haven't gone very far, but two weeks ago I flew to Toulouse with a stop in Istanbul. It was under 24h but that doesn't matter to me. I went where most tourists don't bother going until they've visited a few times. I took the metro under Bosphorus and went to the Asian part of the city :D I also did visit the Sultanahmet square. (and I left Istanbul a few hours before the terrorist attack )
I went to Bordeaux during the same trip, making it my first visit to the Western hemisphere :D I was supposed to fly home via Barcelona but the flight was cancelled due to strikes and I left on a different day via Prague.

I also went to Paris in May and took day trips to see several Euro-2016 host cities: Lens, Lille, Lyon and Saint-Étienne. (pics here)

I flew home via Amsterdam and spent 5 hours there as I missed my connection. IDK, aviation enables you to see some amazing views of the transit location. Turkish Airlines even offer free excursions and meals to the passengers who fly via Istanbul (and if there's no way to book a shorter connection, you get free accomodation at the airport hotel).

My personal definition of visiting a city (that's easier to track than a country) certainly depends on what I did there. Eating, using the public transport, seeing anything cultural generally pushes it in the direction of "this counts". And nowadays even airports have some interesting stuff like exhibitions, churches/prayer areas and whatnot.

Hm, let's see ... I've only been once outside Europe (unless you count the Canary Islands which geographically belong to Africa, but are politically a part of Spain).

Asia
Sri Lanka

Europe
Austria
Belgium
Denmark
France
Germany* (obviously)
Greece
Hungary
Ireland
Italy
Luxembourg*
The Netherlands
Spain
UK (only London)

*lived in these countries

I don't know if I can count Belgium or not. I spent once about a day in Brussels on a trip home from holidays with friends in France. We slept in Brussels and did some sightseeing in the afternoon when we arrived there and the next morning and left Brussels about 1 p.m., so I guess from entering via the French-Belgian border and leaving via the German-Belgian border it was about 24 hours ... ;) All other trips to Belgium were day trips.

It's entirely possible that I am the member of this forum who has been to the fewest number of countries. I've only been in the U.S. and Canada, although I've traveled extensively in both - 33 states and 6 provinces. I do plan to make up for it with extensive time in Europe in the future.

I'm fairly sure we have some members who've not been outside their home country :) That's nothing to be embarrassed of ;)

I've been in 41 US states, so it is easier to mention the states I have not been to: Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Louisiana, Montana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Utah.

I've been in two Canadian provinces: Ontario and Quebec.

In the Western Hemisphere, I've been to Mexico.

In Europe, I've been to Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Monaco, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

I was in Russia when it was still part of the Soviet Union.

I was in Croatia when it was still part of Yugoslavia. I left Croatia on a night train through Slovenia.

How do you count countries that change names and borders on your list?
