I watched the trailer ... it seems confusing. :D

Also, a friend told me during her exchange/internship she always went to these kinds of shops because there people would talk to her (while often saying that their conversation topics must be boring because no tertiary education, she said), while the Japanese university students all remained in their own little Japanese-student-world, none of them having any interest to interact with any of the exchange students, as, she surmised, there was nothing to be gained from it in career terms ... :|

I just finished doing L-R with Pale Moon (2014). Very nice movie about money.

Not sure if this counts or not, but I have watched three episodes (45 mins each) of 奋斗 (Fendou - English, Chinese) this month. It's a soap about a group of recent graduates in Beijing, with the storyline mostly revolving around their relationships. Not the sort of thing I'd watch in English, but the added challenge of trying to figure out what's going on makes it interesting. :) Still quite difficult for me (HSK 4ish), but just about manageable.

Last night, I finished watching the last episode of 逃げるは恥だが役に立つ (http://asianwiki.com/We_Married_as_Job)。The loose translation of the Japanese title is something like "Running away is humiliating, but helpful". When I first read about the premise, I was not interested — fake marriage between two relative strangers and how their relationship blooms. But, it was quite popular in Japan, and even the US diplomatic service (including the US Ambassador) did a tribute to the dance found at the end of each episode (US diplomat version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xuXlpvWw1I; original: https://vimeo.com/187538552).

So, I thought I’d give it a whirl. Once I got past the premise, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Disclaimer: I watched it without subs, so I didn’t have full comprehension, but I had enough. It was not the typical romantic plot that I had expected. In the end it was less about their romance and more about doing the right thing and being a decent person. There are a lot of parodies to other Japanese media which I hardly got, but I was delighted with the ones I did get. I wish I could find timed Japanese subs, because I would consider working with it intensively. (I found transcripts, but not timed subtitle files.)

Theres a reason it called "Challenges" xP

But watching one movie is a lot easier than watching a whole drama. They can be very long.

That sounds interesting. Can you give us a link to the transcripts? And where did you watch the show? It looks like at least some episodes are on YouTube at the moment, but I don't know that they'll stay there.

That's why I picked a film (admittedly a film of a series [of a manga, I think] that I watched long ago, but a film nevertheless!)

You can find transcripts at http://ameblo.jp/pikataa3/theme-10099474253.html. This links to the page with the 11th (last episode, 第11話) and 10th (第10話) episode of 逃げ恥. If you scroll down, you can find links to the other episodes. I’ve never used this site, so I cannot speak for their quality.

I usually can get accurate Japanese subs to almost any j-drama at http://jpsubbers.web44.net/Japanese-Subtitles/, but for some reason there are no subs for anything from the 2016 fall season when 逃げ恥 aired. The timings include commercials breaks, etc, so they won’t line up with cut videos. The front page has the current season; go to “@Main/“ to access previous seasons (beginning in 2009). You can also find timed Japanese .srt subs at http://www.d-addicts.com/forums/page/subtitles#Japanese (as well as subs to asian dramas in many other languages). My listening comprehension and enjoyment of J-dramas really skyrocketed when these Japanese subs became available. I keep meaning to take more advantage of this terrific resource for language learning.

I downloaded the show from a site whose legality is probably shaky. (Although they say they are in compliance with “the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and general international copyright laws” and respond to complaints by copyright holders, I find it hard to believe). So, I am not going to share the link here. I wish viki.com or crunchyroll had more j-drama to make access easier. If you are interested in downloading it, I’d be happy to PM you the information.

That's not really from Confucius, is it? The proverb seems to be 不怕慢,就怕站, and that doesn't look like 5th c. BC Chinese...
