Listening to song-lyrics, like watching French-language films--will immensely help your understanding of spoken French. You're not merely learning the words to some single song, you're building a lasting familiarity with phoneme sequences which are common to hundreds of words and phrases and which flow with the pace of a song's lyrics, as does everyday speech. Thus, by listening to the songs, you're building an acquaintance with both sounds, rythyms of speech and words' sounds which, when heard later, in other words, shall hold meaning to you because, at least, the sounds you hear won't be unfamiliar.
Even when you may not understand a phrase's meaning, you'll be able to correctly repeat it --and, thus, look it up in a dictionary--because the sounds of the terms will be such as you've learned to recognize. Every song thus holds multiform opportunities for enriching your listening comprehension. The more time spent with music and film, the more your fluency shall grow.

C'est une fille d'Avril
Pauvre de moi
Une fille difficile
Elle ne veut pas
Découvrir d'un fil
Tout ce qu'elle a
Ni son cœur, ni son corps
C'est comme ça
Les filles de Janvier, on le dit
N'aiment pas garder leurs habits
Au coin du feu
Elles se prélassent
Février Mars
Voici le joli mois de Mai
Les manteaux, on les met jamais
Elles ne gardent presque rien
Quand vient le soleil de Juin
Enfin Juillet les déshabille
Mais elle, c'est une fille...
D'Avril

https://www.google.it/url?sa=t&rct=j&q= ... 0842,d.bGs
Je n'ai pas peur de la route
Faudrait voir, faut qu'on y goûte
Des méandres au creux des reins
Et tout ira bien
Le vent l'emportera
Ton message à la grande ourse
Et la trajectoire de la course
A l'instantané de velours
Même s'il ne sert à rien
Le vent l'emportera
Tout disparaîtra
Le vent nous portera
La caresse et la mitraille
Cette plaie qui nous tiraille
Le palais des autres jours
D'hier et demain
Le vent les portera
Génétique en bandoulière
Des chromosomes dans l'atmosphère
Des taxis pour les galaxies
Et mon tapis volant dis?

"Elle me dit"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NiHWwKC ... Aacl-ub4Wh
Elle me dit
Écris une chanson contente
Pas une chanson déprimante
Une chanson que tout le monde aime
Elle me dit
Tu deviendras milliardaire
T'auras de quoi être fier
Ne finis pas comme ton père
Elle me dit
Ne t’enfermes pas dans ta chambre
Vas-y secoue-toi et danse
Dis moi c’est quoi ton problème?
Elle me dit
Qu’est-ce que t’as pas l’air coiffé
T’es défoncé ou t'es gai
Tu finiras comme ton frère
Elle me dit
Elle me dit, c’est ta vie
Fais c’que tu veux, tant pis
Un jour tu comprendras
Un jour tu t’en voudras
Elle me dit, t’es trop nul
Sors un peu de ta bulle
Tu fais n’importe quoi!
On dirait que t’aimes ça
Pourquoi tu gâches ta vie?
Pourquoi tu gâches ta vie?
Pourquoi tu gâches ta vie?
Danse danse danse, elle me dit
Pourquoi tu gâches ta vie?
Pourquoi tu gâches ta vie?

"Aux Armes Et Caetera" (La Marseillaise)- Serge Gainsbourg
https://www.google.it/url?sa=t&rct=j&q= ... 0842,d.bGs
Allons enfant de la patrie
Le jour de gloire est arrivé
Contre nous de la tyrannie
L'étendard sanglant est levé
Aux armes et caetera
Aux armes et caetera
Aux armes et caetera
Aux armes et caetera
Entendez-vous dans les campagnes
Mugir ces féroces soldats
Ils viennent jusque dans nos bras
Egorger nos fils nos compagnes
Aux armes et caetera
Aux armes et caetera
Aux armes et caetera
Aux armes et caetera
Amour sacré de la patrie
Conduis soutiens nos bras vengeurs
Liberté liberté chérie
Combats avec tes défenseurs
Aux armes et caetera
Aux armes et caetera
Aux armes et caetera
Aux armes et caetera
Nous entrerons dans la carrière
Quand nos aînés n'y seront plus
Nous y trouverons leur poussière
Et la trace de leurs vertus
Aux armes et caetera
Aux armes et caetera
Aux armes et caetera
Aux armes et caetera

Also, I've noticed a great resource missing from the resource page at the beginning. La prononciation française pour de vrai by Penny Sewell is a 3-DVD set you can buy in the UK for £15. The explanations are entirely in French (she also has an English based course), so it does double duty: trains your comprehension and teaches pronunciation. The instructor is British, but from what I have read her accent is impeccable.

Since I completed the passive phase of Assimil's New French With Ease I kind of gave up on the active phase. It wasn't holding my attention at all. I know that doing the active phase would really help me but I don't like to study any thing that bores me because I don't pay attention and in the end, I don't learn any thing.
I've since taken up French in Action, which I really enjoy and plan on completing. I bought all the books on amazon and I use the audio/video resources available at the college of middlebury's website for free.
After contemplating my learning methods I added the Harry Potter books back to my daily regiment. Now that I've got the passive phase of Assimil, half of an active phase, and 11 lessons of French in Action under my belt the HP books are much more readable, although I still come across a lot of unknown words, phrases, and sometimes entire paragraphs.
Since I've taken up working my way through the HP books, using readlang to aid me, my interest in the French language has been renewed. I find courses mind numbing and I tend to tune things out. With HP, I'm actually interested in the material and I really enjoy trying to puzzle out the sentence grammar/meaning. I also listen to the audio books to get a sense of the pronunciation. After I read through a chapter, I'm going to listen to the audio and read the chapter out loud to help cement things into my brain a little more.
My daily study regiment is:
One hour of French in Action. I do the exercises from the book and put any thing I find useful into anki using cloze deletion.
I read through Harry Potter with readlang as an aid. Picking sentences and paragraphs at random to study further. I analyze the random sentences to get a sense of grammatical structure. I also rewrite some of the sentences in different tenses, changing the plurality to deepen my understanding of the language.
I listen to the audio after reading the chapter as an extensive reading exercise.
Read some or all of the chapter out loud to cement things into my brain.
Things I do whenever I have free time:
Watch tv shows/movies in the language.
Watch Easy Languages on youtube.
Things I plan to do in the future:
Work through literature written in French, in a variety of tenses(rather than translated works like HP), using audio books to aid my pronunciation.
Start writing in French online, trying to express ideas/concepts in French.
Listen to podcasts in the language.
I studied esperanto a little bit in the past but I didn't take it any where. I consider French to be my first second language and I've learned a lot about how to go about learning a language since I took up French last year.
I look forward to progressing in my French this year, reading through the entire HP series as well as genuine French literature.
