Challenge XXIV - Feb 2017

Starts: Wednesday, 1st Feb 2017 00h00m01s your time
Ends: Tuesday, 14th Mar 2017 23h59m59s your time

The 6 Week Challenge is a challenge to upgrade your language skills in one language from beginner to something more worthwhile, and to see if you can find more time to study languages when competing with other participants in a global highscore. 6 Week Challenges start on February 1st, May 1st, August 1st and November 1st every year, so there is a rough 6 weeks on / 6 weeks off pattern. Note that you can only do the 6 Week Challenge with a language that you're a beginner at or lower-intermediate at most. This allows for a more just comparison between participants.

The bot only knows ISO-639-1 languages.

ISO 639-1 codes here

The three tags #ie #multilingual #linguistics which are all grouped together as "Multilingual" on the scoreboard can be used if you don't want to differentiate between several languages.

Also available are: Nahuatl, Ancient Greek, #ASL, #Cantonese. I don't know what the tags are for the first two.

Thanks for starting the 6WC thread again, smallwhite. I will definitely be participating, and I'm almost sure it will be with Finnish. Why? Because Finnish makes me feel all tingly inside, I guess. ;) My level is A1ish. I'll probably be doing Assimil, maybe some FSI and Supisuomea, and possibly Memrise if I find a course I like.

Good luck, everyone!

I'll be signing up with Russian again :) I'm not sure I'm even A1 at the moment, so looking to make some big improvements. I feel like I've got off to a strong start with it so far this year, so really looking forward to having the bot to track my time and see whether I'm doing as well at fitting study in as I think I am!

Has anyone actually tried to register yet? I have tried, but the bot isn't responding.

I'm going to register for Portuguese this time. The reason is that I'll be going to Portugal for a week of vacation about halfway through the challenge.

I have some resources lined up already: an audio course, a grammar workbook, a vocabulary workbook, Mondly, Duolingo.

Considering my previous experience with romance languages, I think it should be possible to make some decent progress before I go. Once there, I hope I'll get the chance to visit a bookstore and get some books/audiobooks at a suitable level.

I just tried to register and it didn't answer me either.

I'm going to go with Spanish again. Yes, I clearly said for the last 6WC that I'd be intermediate by now. Apparently they moved the line? (Or I didn't study those verbs liked I claimed I would.)

I just tried and it hasn't replied to me either. It looks like there's no replies/no one on the list of sign-ups so far. Perhaps we are all too early

I'd be interested, but can someone inform me of the rules and such? I've looked around and it seems very vague, I don't even know what I'd be tracking. How are points counted?

Thanks for getting the ball rolling for the next challenge, smallwhite. I'm looking forward to learning New Zealand Sign Language from scratch this time, but will probably mark my entry down as #asl (as nzs is an ISO 639-3 code). I tried to register a couple of times yesterday, but no luck so far...

I don't actually know whether it is. I just assume it is when the previous scoreboard is archived and the new one up.

Or maybe it is running but something is wrong. I'll go see how early people have registered in the past, though the past is not necessarily representative of the present. I don't want to contact Sprachprofi for this yet, but next time we contact her we can ask about the changeover date or maybe request it be the 15th or something.
