Welcome to the Esperanto TAC team!
Anyone is welcome to join this team if Esperanto is one of the languages you will be dabbling in during 2016. I don't think Esperanto is likely to be the main language focus for most of us this year (it definitely isn't mine!) so I suggest we don't have any rules or pressure to update etc. If you're doing anything with Esperanto this year then don't hesitate to join in
The official TAC sign-up thread is here.

Feel free to post any questions you have about Esperanto and update us on your progress If you want to give a brief introduction below (either in Esperanto or in English) about how/why you started learning Esperanto, that would also be cool.
Also let me know if you have any good suggestions for a name!

Re: Esperanto team - TAC 2016 - Team Thread
I hope my attempt at Esperanto wasn't too bad. Please correct me if anything is completely wrong
Feliĉan Novjaron!

Mi plejparte ŝtelis el mesaĝoj kiujn mi jam skribis ĉe la malnova forumo Mi certas ke estas pli da ligindaj aferoj do mi esperas ke vi ĉiuj sciigos min se vi havas ideojn.

Nearly perfect The only thing I would say is that to me, "dankon pro starigi" (ie. dankon pro followed by an infinitive) sounds a bit unnatural. I would tend to either follow pro with a noun, eg. "Dankon pro la starigo de ĉi tiu grupo" or with a separate clause, eg. "Dankon pro tio ke vi starigis ĉi tiun grupon".

Thanks for clarifying that, Claire. To me, your examples sound like you're going around the houses a bit (especially that second one), but I guess that's just how Esperanto is and I'll have to get used to it.

Re: Esperanto team - TAC 2016 - Team Thread
I may lurk here a little. I started tinkering a little with Esperanto, but then decided to focus my energy on Spanish, particularly since my progress in Spanish has stalled.
I may still try to attend Mekaro in Granby, Quebec, Canada, in May, since it is "only" a 4 1/2 hours drive from home, but likely will show up there as a complete newbie.

Don't count me in officially since I am uncertain of my commitment to Esperanto in the near future.

Saluton haziz You're welcome to lurk and post here whenever you're interested in Esperanto.
I always think it must be so much more difficult practising Esperanto in North America compared to Europe; there are comparatively so many more events and meet-ups here that don't require travelling such huge distances
I should have added to the resources list that if anyone is looking for opportunities to practise in real life, a good website to look at i Eventoj (click "Internacia Kalendaro de Esperanto-aranĝoj").

Re: Esperanto team - TAC 2016 - Team Thread
I would like to join this team!
I'm very much a dabbler in Esperanto, and am definitely a beginner. I have never spoken it, and I'm not sure that I'll speak it in 2016. But I think it's a really fun language to learn!
So far, I've done about half of the Duolingo tree, 2 beginners' courses on Lernu, and watched all of Mazi en Gondolando on YouTube.

Re: Esperanto team - TAC 2016 - Team Thread
I think I'll be hanging out as a lurker. I tried a bit of Esperanto a long time ago and used to "sadly" read usenet forums in Esperanto (does that even exist anymore?) but didn't really learn to speak it out loud.
Anyway, good luck to the actual participants.

We may have accumulated more non-members than members
I've got no idea whether Usenet still exists but it sounds like just the sort of thing Esperantists would still be involved in if it does
I'm impressed by the progress everyone is making with Duolingo. I tried the Russian course when it came out a few months ago and found the Duolingo quite confusing in general. But possibly Esperanto lends itself to that format better than Russian?
