WIPO Pearl, and Tool Box Journal

Those interested in scientific and technical terminology might find WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) Pearl at http://www.wipo.int/wipopearl/search/co ... earch.html useful. It provides a concept map showing other terms related to a given query term, in one of 10 languages; clicking on one brings up expanded multilingual search results. There's also a "Linguistic Search" allowing you to specify the source and target languages ('target' meaning the language you are translating into, which is not the sense in which 'target language' is usually used in this forum).

Pearl would probably be of practical use only to technical translators, but it's a nice tool (there are a few similar tools out there for general language). It was highlighted in the latest edition of Jost Zetzsche's Tool Box Journal, which provides news about language tools and resources for professional translators. In view of that, the Journal itself might interest users of this forum; a subscription to the basic (truncated) version is free. See http://www.internationalwriters.com/toolkit/.
