English for arabic speakers

Postby paz » Wed Feb 08, 2017 6:58 am

language learners! I need an advice.

I want to make a present to a sudanese girl. She speaks sudanese and standard arabic, and would like to improve her english language. I was thinking about a bilingual method with the english audio included.

Any suggestions?
Thx

AFAIK, Duolingo offers an English course for Arabic speakers.

I haven't checked it out, though.

There are also Android, iOS and Windows Duolingo apps.

I was pleasantly surprised to discover that two publishers having very solid reputations offer English courses for speakers of Arabic:

Assimil: English for Arabic Speakers
https://www.amazon.com/Assimil-Pack-English-Arabic-Speakers/dp/2700524101/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1486558180&sr=8-8&keywords=english+for+arabic+speakers
This level of the Assimil courses would take a student to approximately the CEFR B1 level.

Linguaphone: English Complete Course for Arabic Speakers
https://www.linguaphone.co.uk/language/english/english-complete-course-for-arabic-speakers.html
This level of the Linguaphone courses would take a student to approximately the CEFR B1 level.

Linguaphone: English Complete Advanced
https://www.linguaphonelanguages.com/collections/english
From my experience with other Linguaphone Advanced courses, these materials, including the notes to the students, would be written entirely in the target language; that is, in English. In my view, independent learners wishing to study with these materials should already be at a CEFR level of A2. The level on completion would be approximately CEFR B2(+). Please note that, presently, Linguaphone U.S.A. is offering their copies at a price reduction of 55%.

I have not come across reviews of these particular courses. However, my experiences with other courses by these publishers has always been quite positive. Also, in both cases, I have found that the accompanying notes to the student lack a little je ne sais quoi and, for that reason, I would recommend that a user of these materials purchase and keep close at hand a simple grammar.

The accompanying audio files for the Assimil and Linguaphone courses are recorded in the target language only; that is, in this case, English.

EDITED: Typos plus additional comment.
