Good Spaced Repetition Software

Postby Louie » Sat Jan 07, 2017 8:53 am

I am currently looking for some good "Spaced Repetition" apps and software that can be used both online and through an app, that can sync with each other. If you can recommend any good ones that have helped you with your language studies please let me know.

Best regards,
Louie

Do you know about Anki? That's what I use and recommend. There is a desktop version and iOS and android. You have to pay for the iOS version but I think it's worth it. They sync beautifully via the cloud. And if you have an iPhone and don't want to pay for the app I believe you can use it in a browser for free but I've never done that.

I heard of Anki a while ago I will look into but a quick google search shows a lot of people are using it to good results ... thank you!

I can't imagine it shouldn't be possible to use the web browser version of Anki on your phone - there's no problem on an Android. However, if you start tweaking your deck(s), add plugins and so on, those (probably?) won't work in the web browser. For instance, AwesomeTTS (which adds text-to-speech to your cards) doesn't work in webAnki. But if you just have a basic setup with two-sided cards and nothing fancy, there's no problem.

Note that if you implement extra functionality as Javascript instead of a Python addon, you can use it on the desktop, mobile, and web equally. :)

Who said there was a system that couldn't be hacked? ;) Anyway, that's beyond my skills.

My personal preference is Supermemo. It's not free, it is difficult to use and can be installed on Windows-powered desktops and laptops only, though in terms of customization functionalities and general learning effectiveness it's way better than any other SRS I know, including Anki .
You can learn more about it here: http://super-memory.com/
