Re: Resizing images
What I do is usually resize images using Paint (PC) or Preview (Mac) before uploading. Just double click on image, resize and and set width to about 400-600 pixels (or less). Then upload.

Re: Resizing images
If you're on Windows, I'd recommend http://www.irfanview.com. This is a very simple and easy to use program for image manipulations. Once you've opened an image in it, go to the menu Image -> Resize/Resample. The options in the dialogue should be self-explaining. You can further decrease the file size with Image -> Decrease Colour Depth. 256 colours should be enough. If you get some artefacts from decreasing the image size, try Image -> Effects -> Blur. When you save an image under File -> Save As you can choose the compression rate with some formats.
It may take a few attempts to reduce both the size of the image and the size of the image file to a get a good quality. This is not an exact science, and what works best may depend on the content of the image.

Re: Resizing images
If you're on android, there's a super simple app called Photo Resizer (HD for tablets). That's all it does is resize images, quick and easy.

Re: Resizing images
Thanks, all!
I was hoping there would be a quick in-forum fix, so that I could just reuse pictures that I've already uploaded without having to resize them and upload them a second time. No problem, though...I'll just resize for future posts.

Vbulletin has this ability out of the box, but on phpBB it requires a patch. As it stands, currently we need to do it ourselves. Maybe it is something to add to the lists of dev...

Re: Resizing images
I'd also love to see in-house photo re-sizing! I currently use irfanview or gimp and then save the new image on photobucket, but it would save time to if there were a way that images were automatically resized to 800 pixels (or whatever an appropriate size would be).

Re: Resizing images
Also on this subject, I was quite surprised to see that avatars over the expected size weren't accepted. Most sites these days automatically scale them down to the right size rather than rejecting them and requiring the users to do the resizing themselves. It's a minor issue since most of us only upload an avatar once in a while, but if there's a quick fix it would be nice to have.

Re: Resizing images
Does anyone know what the size limits for attached images (in terms of pixels or file size, or both)?
Thanks.
Thanks.
