My "vision" for what it could look like is here: http://codepen.io/arthaey/embed/NqOapd?height=1200

That said, I was thinking more along the lines of translating entire posts, not just words/phrases.

I saw the demo - but how would you active it?
you can use a bbcode for an entire post.

The way I was thinking was that users should be able to change the machine translation or just write their own translation from scratch. So instead of having a bbcode around the original text, you place it around the translated text. You would then have a button on the posting interface which adds a machine translation of your post.

Code: Select all

¡Estoy escribiendo en español!
[translate=en]I'm writing in Spanish![/translate]

But your suggestion does look pretty neat and tidy zenmonkey, hmmm...

The primary use for such a feature I would see as being for specific multilingual threads, like the film and book clubs. Quite a few people have said they don't want to write their post twice, once in L2 and once in English. If we had this they could easily write in L2 and just get an automatic English translation (for use by those who don't speak the L2).
