Thank you, everybody, for all the awesome forum feature suggestions! I may not have responded to all of them yet, but I try to read them, and I really appreciate the ideas.
Unfortunately, there's only one of me! Although any programmers are definitely welcome to volunteer. So in order to make sure we work on the most important features first, here's a poll. You may vote for up to 10 choices, or suggest other choices in the thread below. And you can change your votes any time you wish.

Definitely the looks, especially if we can have a darker theme also more emoticons/emoji (i don't care much about the flags), especially as some of those from the win8 emoji keyboard are marked as forbidden symbols. At least the heart-eyes one is
As for "other" - a separate field for native language. And unless there's a technical reason for that, a higher character limit in the languages field This way people can also include the dabbling/hitlist ones without a separate "about me" field.
also voted for active topics and for hieroglyphs for all the work emk has done, hieroglyphs deserve to be one of the next features!

Re: Vote on what we should fix next
I view "Unread Posts" instead of "Active Topics" because it only shows threads with posts that I haven't read yet.
I come onto this forum multiple times a day, often with no new posts in-between. "Active Topics" will keep showing me the same threads, and I will keep clicking on them, only to find out that there've been no new posts. While "Unread Posts" won't.
I think.
"Unread Posts" sort of shows a backlog of Posts-to-read, which can be reduced to zero (at least theoretically).
So, if we're implementing "Active topics grouped by forum", can we please have "Unread Posts grouped by forum" as well?
Thanks.
PS to those who use "Active Topics": give "Unread Posts" a go!

I think that the forum doesn't look good at all with the enormous phpBB and then the Not the Real HTLAL all there and in blue and white. Blue and white are nice colours, but little bit boring.
The new forum must have a nice logo, and its own title. Now, it seems low quality and quickly set up.
Maybe a visitor here is a graphic designer and can make a logo?

I agree, but I didn't say this before because I was banned one time on the other htlal because I had written 'LOL' and "haha" and after, the peopel had discussed the emoticosn and they all said that they are terrible and destroy the posting's high level of quality.
Persoanllly, I think that the emoticons clarify what can be misinterpreted in text.

The internet is changing emoji per se are not a problem, but of course we need to make sure we don't overuse them, and emoji-only posts shouldn't be welcome, at least outside personal logs.

Re: Vote on what we should fix next
Speaking of emoticons, I don't like the auto-translation of good old ASCII smilies to those weird images. looks like a *gnihihi* to me, which is not the intention when I write (: (the other way round). seems a bit too much too.
I'm aware that I can switch off displaying smilies completely, but this leaves me with fragments like : mrgreen : .
So I just realized that I can disable auto-translation of smilies in the options below the input field. Any way to make this a default option (some switch in the control center)?
