I ran the headline of Noriaki's blog through Jisho:
神風ジャンパーの挑戦
神風 kamikaze かみかぜ
The word everyone knows thanks to the fighter pilots of WWII.
神 kami かみ gods, soul
The kami have featured in enough novels that they are ubiquitous too.
風 kaze かぜ wind
挑戦 chiyouken ちようけん defiance, challenge
Also some more stuff I learned via the JRPG game:
手 shu しゅ te て hand
上手 jouzu じょうず skillfully, well
口 kou こう kuchi くち mouth
I wonder why a square for mouth? Also, Nichiguchi - north entrance.
出 shutsu しゅつ exit
大学 daigaku だいがく college
学 gaku がく study
校 kou こう school
I'm NOT going back to school, no thank you!
大人 otona おとな adult
Tripped me up in JRPG many times. I know o comes from おきい but why -tona?
先生 sensei せんせい teacher
The word everyone knows. Hai, sensei!
先 sen せん previous
生 sei せい life
先月 sengetsu せんげつ previous month
See, I can do compounds now. Yes, I totally can!
今 ko こ now
今年 kotoshi ことし this year
See, more compounds!
一人 hitori ひとり one person
二人 futari ふたり two people
Because the game really wanted me to know those. Who knows, maybe they'll come in handy one day...
Also: more random notes still not ready for the log.
I *need* verbs. And I have a link to MANGAJIN (30 issues) and I managed to track down a PDF of Learning Japanese the Manga Way, so they ought to speed up my learning even more.

Re: Arabic in bite-sized parts (now with doses of JP & RU)
This morning while I was getting dressed, a fully formed Japanese sentence popped into my brain (probably from all that Japanese the Manga Way yesterday):
Watashi o-gohan taberu.
私おごはん他べり。
"I (will) eat a meal."
I'm not sure about the placement of "o" and my inner voice kept wanting to add a よ for emphasis I guess I was really HUNGRY!
私 watashi わたし I

Re: Arabic in bite-sized parts (now with doses of JP & RU)
As far as I know, it should be "Watashi wa gohan o taberu". I usually memorize this by making it analogue to our passive sentence: "gohan o taberu" = "the rice is eaten".

Re: Arabic in bite-sized parts (now with doses of JP & RU)
Time for some notes from Mangajin:
ばか baka idiot
Remember how Noriaki called himself 親ハカ? This is where the second half of 'doting parent' aka stupid parent comes from
入門 nyuumon にゅうもん introduction
門 mon もん gate
入 nyuu にゅう enter
質問 shitsumon しつもん question
Shitsumonday on Reddit
食べる taberu たべる eat
ごはん gohan meal
寿司 sushi すし
猫 neko ねこ cat
The sole word I recognized back when I asked a friend to say something in Japanese...
ニア nya meow
タオル taoru たおる towel
Wait, Michael! A manga I must have seen either in Polish or in English at some point since I recognized the style and the titular cat.
こちら kochira this way/person
こそ koso indeed
これ kore this is
いったい ittai expression of surprise
ごめんなさい gomen nasai I‘m sorry
すみません sumimasen excuse me
More survival phrases... I think both are frequent (of course in romaji) in novels set in Japan.
おまえ omae you (familiar)
ぼく boku I(young male)
よろしく yoroshiku well
お願い o-negai おねがい request
します shimasu make, do
閉める shimeru しめる close
Using BliuBliu for Japanese - as it simply grabs stuff from the web, most of the stuff I'm seeing comes from NHK Easy News. I will look up the site today or tomorrow. There's a neat rundown of the most common kanji on NHK Easy here: http://www.kanjiwebeasy.com/kanji/

No, you weren't (my tutor used it with me in January 2013, so before this site even existed!)
In other news: I finished Polish Sign Language A2 course yesterday. The tutor is discouraging us from taking B1, "saying" that it's a lot of money and time invested for little benefit ("you can communicate with people in the foundation at A2", "if you get too advanced they won't understand your signing" etc.). I'm of two minds, seeing as I haven't had much chance to use it.
Since Sunday, I've had to go without both my aids (argh! I've a propensity for both acne and cerumen production and it seems they conspired, producing big acne spots in my ear shells - I've had it happen but never in both ears at the same time) but my parents don't know any signs. I get by by lip-reading or having them no further than 0,5m away.
Installing Learning With Texts as I type this.

Oops, sorry I misremembered it. After gone some checking, turned out it was Crispin whom I gave the link to:
