Output Challenge 2016: 18144 / 50000

---

I've decided to stop writing these log entries in German, because I don't find it to be valuable practice anymore. I stopped keeping a journal for the same reason.

As for my uni coursework, I've handed in three of the projects and it looks like I'll be done with the fourth by the end of next week (week 16). The projects I'm already done with were rather simple: a webapp for writing assingment feedback based on "template sentences" (PHP), a simple tetris clone (Android, so 10% developing and 90% android.system.IDontWannaWorkException) and a website for a rental car company (web development 2).

I'm also reading a book in my native language: Hodejegerne by Jo Nesbø. It's a really entertaining book about an arrogant headhunter who has a few skeletons in the closet.

German
Translating stuff mostly, nothing worth mentioning. At the moment, I've been translating the first chapter of a Harry Potter fanfic (the first and only one I've actually read) that I found kind of interesting, since it covers the side of the story that the seventh book doesn't cover much, namely that of the Weasleys, and the "other trio", Ginny, Luna and Neville. It's also a steady supply of translatable text at a nice "n+1" level.

Spanish
For some reason, there wasn't a Ministerio del Tiempo episode this week, so I only watched last week's. I also watched a few episodes of Águila roja and Hermanos y detectives (the Spanish version this time around, one Argentinian makes it hard enough).

I finally finished that huge brick (Tríada) of a book, and I realised that I'm slowly running out of books to read, so I ordered three new ones:

The former two are sequels to two of the books that I ordered earlier this year whereas the latter is a sequel to Ojos de agua, which I read a year ago. This time aroudn I also made sure to not order any monstrouosly thick hard-covers with small print.

French
I was considering reading through the last bit of the Harry Potter book but ended up leaving a few pages for next week. (Stopped at the end of his meeting with Voldy in the basements.)

As for listening, I only listened to a few let's play videos by the youtuber Siphano that were each about 40 minutes long. I still can't understand much of what's being said, but I do feel that I'm improving, so I think I'm doing something right. Hopefully I'll be able to move on to TV shows later this year...

(I used a MySQL request this time and realised that I've counted about 100 too little until now, since I used to just add the current week's results to the previous total manually)

---

I almost finished my last coursework project this week, and I would have finished it too if I didn't end up spending the last weekend at my parents' outbuilding (or whatever Altenteil or kår translates to) where the network connection was a bit shaky, and the assignment needed a decent stable internet connection.

I also received the books that I ordered last week. I'm still not sure whether I'll read through the last 150 pages or so of La sombra del viento before getting started on the others...

German
Nothing new here, just some more translating and a few Reddit post. I don't watch much German content on YouTube either, and it's ages since the last time I've seen a Tatort episode.

Japanese
I watched a few more episode of Aibou, and I do understand a lot more of the dialogue than I expected. This time (as opposed to two weeks ago) I didn't do the mistake of reading while trying to watch an episode of it.

Dutch
I'm only one week away from finishing Erfschuld now, so I suppose I should be on the lookout for a new book.

I kind of miss struggling through your updates in German, but I have to admit, it's a lot easier to understand your log now.

Glad I checked your log today. Missed reading logs every week. Once you started writing in German, had to unsubscribe because of lack of understanding. Can't wait to start following your updates again. :3

I certainly don't miss writing them in German, since I was trying way too hard to use different sentence structures and so forth to avoid making it look like I just repeating myself. I also don't care about trying to make them as long as possible when I'm not writing them in German.

Since I'm close to halfway through the Output Challenge, and still got two thirds left of the year, I realised that I'd probably make it without writing my log entries in German too.

I handed in my last uni assignment for the semester on Tuesday, so now I only have four exams to look forward to.

I also finished Hodejegerne, and really enjoyed the book. Despite the main character being a bit of a dick, and an art stealing one at that, I still rooted for him, maybe because he was slightly less of a dick than the main antagonist. I also enjoy the style of it, it shows that the author is a very competent user of the Norwegian language.

I've also subscribed to my teammates' logs now - spotting them among "active topics" is harder than I thought it would be...

German
Mostly the same as usual. Translating stuff, (text) chatting on Skype, etc.

Spanish
I finished La sombra del viento this week. I had already started the new books when I realised that I still had 150 pages left of that one. I really struggled with getting into this book in the beginning, but towards the end I started enjoying it a lot more. The only part of it I didn't like was the character Fumero, who was not only a corrupt policeman, but simply evil, masturbate-at-the-thought-of-slitting-someone's-throat kind of evil; I simply found it a bit far-fetched.

I was delighted to see that El ministerio del tiempo has resumed from its "mid-season" break, or whatever it was. Apart from that, I watched a few episodes of Hermanos y detectives as well as a few gaming videos. I completely forgot about Águila roja this week for some reason...

The new books are looking good so far too.

French
I finished the Harry Potter book and moved on to L'Etranger. I noticed that the language of the latter wasn't that much harder than the former.

I started this week by handing in my final assignment on Monday, and I had a one-hour exam on Monday. The rest of the week was spent revising for the two exams I had at the start of the next week (at the time of writing, I've already sat them).

Japanese
I started reading the seventh Harry Potter book. I made it through the first six chapters. I did have some trouble with adjusting my reading webapp work with furigana (display: 'ruby' does funny things to line-height, even when there's more than enough space for the ruby characters between the lines - my workaround is having the "furiganised" kanji turn into the kana version for one second.)

EDIT: I should also mention that I watched a few more episodes of Aibou, which is a fun crime drama, although it does have a bit of a clear distinction between good and bad if you get what I mean, although I shouldn't expect anything else of the Japanese, I suppose. They're still a bit on the conservative side when it comes to morals and so forth.

Dutch
I finished Erschuld, and I'm currently on the lookout for a new book to read in Dutch. My fallback would be another translation of one of Arnaldur Indriðason's books.

I also watched two episodes of Alfred J. Kwak, which was surprisingly dark for such a children's cartoon. For some reason, it's always mentioned when someone asks for Dutch TV shows recommendation. (It feels a bit weird to watch it though, as a bloke in his mid-twenties...)
