The price of books.
Bonjour mes amis,
I just purchased this book, La Vie après la mort selon la tradition orthodoxe for $30. I wanted the English translation, but it sells for $850 plus! I have no idea why a used book that is only five years old is so outrageously priced. I guess that I am going to dig into my copy of French for Reading by Sandberg.
La grande aventure de Thomas dans le monde des francophones.

Re: Tom - Le Voyage Français
Ever since you posted the fact that you were reading La Vie après la mort selon la tradition orthodoxe it has been going through my mind.
I think the idea is a brilliant one and I thank you for sharing it for a number of reasons:
1-It gives me courage to continue to read books I want to read even though they are very difficult
2-It show me that there do not have to be limits and that whatever I choose to read I can always read and then go back and read again and again for increased meaning and understanding, and that there is no rush in my study of a language.
To follow ones passion is no easy thing but you are doing it and it encourages me.
So thank you.

Thank you, Tom, for sharing that book...To be honest, this is the first time that I have heard of Larchet, and he is one of the leading Orthodox theologians today. I have also found out that he has written the book " Le patriarch Paul de Serbie- un saint de notre temps" ( I would like to read it in French).

A book that costs $880? Have you checked it? Maybe it comes with the ticket for an afterlife...

Thank you for sharing this! It's important to read what you want to read and to not be discouraged by the perceived difficulties. They will diminish as one progresses.
BTW, there are excellent emissions about the Orthodoxy on France Culture, but you probably know them already. Regarding the afterlife- there is this famous book by the recently deceased Jacques le Goff, La naissance du Purgatoire (can be bought as a pdf file on Amazon).

Thank you for your effort in trying to find the book for me. Unfortunately, they are out of stock, and suggested I go to Amazon where the price is $850.
Thank you again for your help,
Tom

I believe the Orthodox tradition actually adds one to this number:
