I enjoy spending time at language learning sites such as this one. Over the years my reasons for visiting have changed a bit. I used to focus more on teaching people stuff, and rarely admitted to myself that I was learning a lot more from the forum than the forum was learning from me. I enjoyed arguing a lot in the past, but now it seems a bit futile; people are going to change their views on language learning about as easily as those on sex, religion and politics. These days I'm trying to become mainly a learner here. I still deal out a lot of advice, which is fine, but I think I'm spending more time seriously considering and trying out things other people have posted.
I'm curious other forum members are mainly here for. No judgements. Please share.

Re: Learn, teach, socialize or argue?
Given the choices I chose learn and socialize. There are plenty of other places (that are also civil for the most part) that I can and do go to have debates about things like politics, social issues, etc. I will critically discuss some of the articles that people post links to, but that is far from arguing.

Re: Learn, teach, socialize or argue?
Great question! Makes me rethink the time I'm spending here. I am here to learn how to learn faster and better, but I think I've found the answer a long time ago and I have not learnt much since then. Diminishing returns as they say.
Will delete the LLorg bookmark on the smartphone that I use at home to study. Thanks!

Re: Learn, teach, socialize or argue?
I tell myself I come here to learn, but in reality, socializing is probably just as important to me, maybe more. I also enjoy the chance to help others, but I often don't really feel all that qualified.

Re: Learn, teach, socialize or argue?
I come here to learn and socialise, but also like to participate in intelligent discussions. That said, I realise that arguing about language learning rather than making progress with my languages is a particularly silly form of procrastination, so I occasionally regret participating in discussions. I try to keep the discussions to a minimum, but occasionally can't resist.

Learn and socialise.
And to lose myself with the dark time-suck that is inhabited by the imaginary people inside this hole called the Internet.
(At least here I can pretend to read posts in the accents of Donald Duck and Boris Badenov and Natasha Fatale and Zlad!
That's probably not very politically correct.)

Learning is good, but flipping the rhetorical table or testing your knowledge indirectly by calling out mistakes in small doses is better

Re: Learn, teach, socialize or argue?
I have learned a great deal about how to learn and study languages on this forum but my main goal has always been socialization. It's all about hanging out with a group of friends that have a common interest.
